After searching unsuccessfully for an R1 engine, I finally moved forward and installed the cbr600 engine instead. Plenty of leg room for the driver and a sufficient amount for the passenger.

As soon as I got it into place I ran across this for sale.

A well worn but good running 2001 Yamaha R1. 150hp (cbr was 100) with much better dimensions for the Autobianchi. It will allow more passenger room and has a much better output shaft placement and will also give me more ground clearance.

The compact nature of bike motors is amazing. To think that you can be sitting on 150 HP not that much bigger than the 3 HP Briggs and Stratton you screwed around with as a kid is boggling.

The driveshaft is finished. The slip joint is to allow for the rubber mounted engine

Engine is properly positioned. Driveshaft is bolted in and engine mounts are coming together

Are the yokes slightly out of phase or is that just camera angle?

With no damping in the shaft you might feel some phase surge. If I were doing another BEC shaft drive I'd put in a guibo.

Must be the camera angle. I made sure that the shaft was perfect. I had considered a guibo to compensate for the rubber that is in the motorcycle rear wheel hub but could not find one to fit in the space available, instead, I rubber mounted the engine. On my suzuki reverse trike, the 1st gear engagement is harsh without it.

I am a little bit concerned about your driveshaft. 1st, the angles look much more than a couple of degrees which is the ideal. You may get a bunch of vibration. 2nd, It appears that you have welded the spline on the yoke. The welding looks less than professional. Even if it was, I would be afraid of the long term reliability of the weld or the HAZ area. If you have already done your homework on this and know it will be OK, never mind. :cheers:

Finished up the shifter and made up some brackets and bracing to install all of the Miata e-brake parts.
