Well yesterday everything I touched turned to crap. I spent t he day in the garage and accomplished a big fat nothing.

Today, I headed to autozone to pick up a pair of Honda axles, brought them home, and cut / spliced to the VW half shafts.
After that was done I redrilled the lower suspension pick up points to get rid of the insane negative camber.

It's a bit ugly, there's still work to do, but it has a functioning differential and can move under it's own power again.

Do you have any more detail on the bearings and bearing carriers that you used?

Do you plan on leaving the differential mechanism exposed, or will you close it and bathed in oil?

The bearings are 6008 sealed Timken 40mm bore 80mm rounded OD for use in the stamped carrier flanges. Flanges are MSZP 4 bolt for 80mm. Some places list them as disc harrow flanges.

In the prior pic I have the simple can installed covering the diff workings. I plan to use moly / zinc high pressure grease instead of 90w oil.

So today I was working on brakes. After hours of searching for rear discs that would fit 5x100 pattern with somewhere between 50 and 6m mm total height, I gave up.

Looked at the old rotor that came off the spool and took some measurements. Turns out that it will fit on the diff. So I disassembled the diff, drilled and tapped four 1/4-28 holes, and bolted the rotor to the diff.
Put it all back together and made a pair of mounting brackets for the caliper. I got lucky in that the caliper wanted to be flush with the diff carrier uprights.

No joy with the Miata rotor either. At this point I think I've looked at every car with 5x100 bolt circle and haven't found anything that works with the combination of 13" wheels and the offset I need. Looks like if I want to move the brakes outboard that I'll be making my own rotors or rotor adapters.

For now work on the car continues. A couple of days ago I mounted the shocks.

Yesterday I worked on giving the A Mod a nose job.
I added a hoop at the front end to raise the sheet metal for more toe room. Then cut the old sides off the "hood" and made fresh ones.
With that done I started work on a nose cone.

South Carolina update.
Yesterday we got the most snow since 1973 (Or 1989, depending on who you ask).
Almost 7" of the white stuff here in Summerville. Dang cold to boot.

The rotors on the rear of my FF would probably work. They are also probably something pretty generic and used by every FF with a Hewland and inboard brakes. Rumor in the day was they were off the front of some VW car in the 70's, 80's. See if you can find parts still available for a popular 80's FWD car. Drilling for the 5 bolt hub might be the issue, but maybe you can do that if you start with a 5 bolt rotor.

Absolutely interesting builds. I've seen the cars at the SOLO events in North Chuck but I've never bothered to stop and watch. My build is going to be too heavy for such antics, I fear......
