Ignition on, listen for the fuel pump to pressure up, hit the starter and roll it over twice then pull the choke all the way out. When the engine fired, push the choke halfway back in and let the engine warm up for a bit, then ease it the rest of the way in.

I knew you could 'splain it better than me!

Sometimes I wish I was still working cause I would be in bed right now, not coming out of the shop at 1:40am in the morning. :ack:
Anyhoo, there was some progress on the Mouse today. This first pic says a lot.

Then I raised the Mouse up for tomorrow, going to install some new fangled electrikal wiring stuff for the battery, starter, coil, fan, vibrating heated bench seat, and horn.

Then I took the oblatory selfie to prove I'm working on the Mouse. Note to self: this is not the pic I sent JD with a 24" pipe wrench

Now I'm winding down, having a spiced rum with Capt'n Morgan, then off to snuggle with wifie
BTW, don't believe JD iffin he starts yollering about obsene pics or something, don't know if your WhatsApp is working JD

Congrats on the first drive. It has a nice exhaust note. Quick work on this car!

Thanks Bill, lots to go on this build. I believe it's easier to build a 7

I love when a build gets to this point

Sure, there's a long way to go, but there's something so gratifying about getting it under it's own power..

Great job- congrats :)

Thanks a bunch everyone. I had set a goal of having this project drivable before we go south for the winter, and achieved it.
But, and thats a huge BUT, (I know JD is going to unload on this sentence) I will most likely pull the body off one more time. I have a tranny oil leak at the kick down lever and I just ordered all the fixings for an engine O/H.
But I achieved my goal
Oh well, that's what keeps this old guy going.

But it ran and drove. No matter how many times it's taken apart again. it is still a driver. Great going Perry.

I would like to get your plans on Pinto rack shortening. My Miata rack is not playing nice, needs to be repositioned along with the upper control arms.

Did you see the pic of the seam in the rear fender?

Cheers!,

Hey Larry, as hard as I look at the rear fender pic for the life of me I can't see the seam. It must be on the outer curve.
I have no plans for rack shortening, I just measure, cut, weld, tap or cut threads. On this build I not only had to shorten the rack I also had to shorten and rethread the inner tie rods to get the width right.
The Mustang/Pinto rack is nice to work with as the rack housing has a metal tube in the center which is easy to cut and weld. The rack itself is easy to cut and thread.

Hi Perry,

Thanks for the info. I shortened my Miata rack and it wasn't a difficult task. However I have a bunch of slop in the steering. Other problems in the front end but I also want to get rid of the what I think is excessive play in the wheel. I tightened the pinion clearance down to where the wheel wouldn't move, backed it off until it would turn and it still had slop. Think it's worn out. It is old. Glad to hear that the Pinto rack has a steel tube. Read somewhere about it being aluminum. I'm not too good at sticking ally back together. But seriously considering a rack change.

The seam is right down the center of the curve at the outer edge. In real life it is pretty hard to see. Follow what the pros say about using the cutting tape and don't fret about using multiple panels. The seams on the nose cone are a lot more visible but still hardly noticeable. And i got a lot better since then ;<) This photo used a flash and you can see it a lot easier.
