Thank you Miatav8 for the feedback.. you're onto something to point out issues in this rear section, as the structural integrity in this area concerns me too..... I'm struggling to blend from what is essentially a mid-car platform to an elevated section on each end.. I'm by no means an engineer, and failure is not an option.. I'll go ahead a be a bit ironic; I'm very concerned about safety on this unusual car..
The trouble is in the compromises.. what isn't really showing up in the build yet is that I plan to move the seats back into the body by about 2" (blue and red rectangles in my addition below).. this car is TINY, and as it being built to sell, I need to accommodate potential drivers of all sizes. I'm 6'2" 195 and it's a tight fit as is.. So that concern leads me to my difficulty framing out this rear section..
Having said that, although they would solve my problem, I can't add the green sections you've drawn in (yellow arrows)..
Still not sure of my solution.. I might ditch my plan to move the seats those 2" into the body- then I could go ahead and add in the bracing (green) as your drawing suggests.. There's also another option that can work... in the last pic I've drawn in some triangulation that would go up 'inside' the body, and at mid-car, it would be positioned behind the closed doors.. I've also added the yellow 'ladder' section that could live below the driveshaft (driveshaft is the green line) and serve to stiffen things up (a-la Miata design)..
If anyone else has feedback I'm certainly open to it.. nothing that can't be cut out and refabbed as needed.. the trick, as we all know, is to build it right without overbuilding it (adding excess weight)..
thanks guys
