He's had it a long time, but I've told him twice now that if he ever wants to sell, to let me know.
Definitely would be different having a pack-away vs folding roof. But overall, it looks to be in pretty good shape.

Got her out for the first drive of the year. Needed dog food, and the weather is fantastic [rain forecast for tomorrow], so I ran her up to Tractor Supply. Got a couple compliments from the cashiers as I walked in, along with a "what is that?".

Plans this month are to do the conversion to an electric fuel pump & route a crankcase vent off the blockoff plate for the mech pump.
We'll see if the extra CV helps with the small oil leak I have [which seems common with Weber equipped 1500s].

If not, will plan for a engine/trans pull & reseal/gasket refresh.

Have a guy a couple hours away that has a Mk3 grille & 1500 4spd, need to find some time to get up there & get them. I've got a 2nd gear grind, so having a spare trans to refresh & swap in would be nice.

Also got around to fitting the deck cover yesterday [covers the top when it's down & looks much better].
Drove it to work last month on a Saturday morning & had the top try to suck out of the cabin at 70mph.
The deck cover needs some work. The tenax snaps on the driver's side are great & the interior snaps are all good.
The passenger side is missing a tenant & another is in the wrong spot. None of the rear snaps will seat.
Fitted it prior to taking it out this morning, no catastrophe at 60mph with the rear snaps loose, so that's promising that it'll at least keep the top secured as is.

There is probably an oil filler/breather cap that will to replace you unvented oil filler cap.
Here is a pic to match what I described before to prevent vapor lock.

Thanks,
In your image, is the heatshield between the carb & intake mainf, or between the intake & header?
Also, what are you indicating with the brown 'fuel' line off the carb?
Will look into a vented 710 cap as well.

At any rate, still going to pursue the electric pump. With this not getting driven often [for now] the excessive cranking to prime the fuel system is putting a strain on the battery [still need to get a tender for it].

The stack is the intake/gasket/shield/gasket/phenolic/gasket.

The fuel line is a reroute away from heat rise off the header and removing it from the area directly behind the header at the firewall.

10-4, thanks again.
The current fuel line routing is pretty far from the header, apart from crossing over it at the rear of the engine bay. Something I'll keep in mind, though. May be moot with the e-pump, as it won't need to cross over & will route directly from the rear, along the passenger side of the car/engine bay.

Electric overdrive 1500 4 spd?! That would be perfect with the 3.7 axle.

No, a regular 1500 4 spd.
Can get it for a song, so figure it'd be good to have a spare on hand, in case 2nd gear gets worse on the trans that's in the car.

I've seen a couple Spitfire OD installs, pretty straightforward with a bit of tunnel widening. The Spit OD or Ford T9 are about the only ways to 'upgrade' from the sprint gearing of the Midget 4spd.

The spit od seems the most practical with just a cross member move, widening, and trans mount further aft.

Toyota application 5 spds (like the W58 or T50) are another option.

Small chance I may try to add a B to the stable.
Neighbor has what I think is a 67 B that's been parked in his garage under a lot of boxes with the hood up at least since we've been in this house [about 1.5 yrs]

Saw him sitting in the driveway one day with another neighbor & walked over to chat a bit. This was a bit before we bought the Midget.
From what I recall, it ran when it was parked, needs some bodywork [unknown amount] but that he has the body panels needed.
Also has AC [probably R12 & not charged].

Leaving for work this morning & it was parked in his driveway with a cover partially over it.
If it's still outside after work, I may see if he's looking to sell it & if it's priced right, try to get it up to my dad's shop.

Love the Midget for what it is, but something with a bit more space/power and better highway manners would be nice for longer trips.
Keep the Midget for local jaunts & the B for longer trips; sounds foolproof, right?

Neighbor came & knocked on my door Saturday & told me he's wanting to sell the B.
Said 'make me an offer' Was hoping to get at least a starting number from him.
Need to get over there & get a good look around it, more than the cursory look I've given it before. If I can do it for cheap, might grab it.

Update, that O'Reilly reman starter was no good.
Returned it & found a new one locally, cost a bit more but it works.

Pulling the starter the first time was a pain, went a bit quicker installing/pulling the bad reman, and only took me about 30 min to install the 3rd one.

Well, that didn't last long.
Ever since I put the replacement starter in, it's seemed like it's cranked slowly.
Went to let it run for a bit last week, and got the progressively slowing crank [almost like a low battery], to the point the starter wouldn't engage.
Pop the hood & was greeted with white smoke pouring from the starter, and it was very hot.
Pulled the battery, and luckily the starter is still under warranty. Pulled the starter yesterday & stopped on the way to work to get a replacement.

We'll see if that resolves the slow crank issue, or if there's an underlying other problem to contend with,

How long the starter is engaged is important. They don't dissipate heat well and should be allowed to cool at least 5 minutes if it doesn't start the engine after 30 seconds of cranking (i.e., "duty cycle"). A starter engaged too long will destroy itself.

If it doesn't crank (hot or cold) within a few revolutions, there is a problem with the procedure or tuning (more choke/throttle pumps before engaging starter, too lean or rich jetting, weak ignition, etc).

Thanks, I didn't really consider duty cycle on it.

Got the new starter in after work & it's much improved. Good strong cranking with no lag/slowing.
