Got some parts in today. Man, the 930 CV is big  ! I don't think with the stickiest tires I will be able to brake it.

And the rear brakes will be bigger than needed but ? Its all good .

Steel for the upright wont be here till Tue. Bummer.

Some ideas from today. What do you think ?
The lower bolt is for the coil over.
I will build spacers to keep things in double shear. Or ? other ideas ?
The big disc is 12" and this will fit into a 14" wheel. Try ed it in a 13" wheel but it would need to be a 1/2" smaller. Like 11 1/2" or maybe 11" to fit. But I'm not going that small. Chassis arm mounts are 9 1/4" so I am trying to keep that at the wheel.

One thing I did do is to push out from the wheel the upper arm mount. Think is 1/2 shorter than the bottom ? This will add some camber .

Thats sort of along the lines of the rear uprights I made for my mothballed trike project ( excuse the rust we have a thing called rain so anything not primed goes rusty) . I did the same and laid out the Merkur ( Sierra) hub along with caliper inside the wheel and reverse engineered from there. Perhaps seems a little over engineered but it is being fitted with one of those fwd transaxle Oldsmoblie 350cu gadgets in the back. These are the same size cv`s as the porsche.

Thanks for posting Bob.

The guys gave me a hard time about boxing the upright in . I have a 5" pipe cut coming to box the bearing flange and will work out from it to the pickup points.

One thing I forgot was the diff was mover off center to help with the right hand driver seat. So I will need one longer axle and one shorter. Something like 16 1/4" and 16 3/4" +- ?

with regard to the different length axls,

does the axle have a circlip holding on the cv joint, could this be removed from one end allowing the axle shaft to slide more in the cv, as long as it is still retained at the other end.

Hi, John.

The 930 CV I got can be used floating at one end. Think they call it plunge ? Other CV's have the ability to slide in and out on their bearings .

Not to hijack the thread but what thickness of plate did you make those knuckles out of? How wide are the vertical sections?

Thank you.

Most of the uprights I have see are 1/4" plate. Maybe the "Truggies" may be bigger ? If the car was light enough 3/16 mite be all that is needed.

This is the 4" tall 5" tube. 4.6 Lbs. It looks to big for the power I will have. :ack: Was think about going 2" ? What do you guys think ? The pickup points will be welded to the base plate and the tube. Take a look at the photo and drawing. Holes will be added to pull some weight out of it.

Cut down and looks better. Will start on the mock-up tonight.
It took longer to get it squared up than cutting it.
