I was looking at the windshield mount and have decided to remove the lip I made for the windshield. I'm going to use a glue in gasket and flat glass to secure the windshield. The front roll bar will be moved back 10in and I will make a custom dash to house my gauges. The one I had before was a little too tall.

More work done today. Finished taking off the cage. Looking at it now there is enough room upfront for both the fuel tank and the battery. If I simplified the wiring I could forgo the need for sidepods. The front will get some much needed weight in the process.

More progress. Cut the drivers side pod off the car. I figure each pod was 45lbs of steel of nearly 90lbs off the car. I also removed the wiring from the car. That's pro another 45lbs. I have to cut way more of the wiring out to make it all fit without the need for sidepods. I test fit where the cage will sit and will need to move the gauge cluster to the center of the car.

 That last pic looks like you gave your car a HEAVY dewormer.....

i read back through the first few pages of your build and am considering more and more of going a similar route and just hacking the front end off of my donor (i know that's a gross understatement of the work you did) with my project having hit a stall pattern mostly from life I'm thinking it would be good to have some progress even if its just chopping up the car. that and the wife says she want the Car-cus gone :( .... says she actually wants to put a car in the garage this winter .... i am confused by this.... lol. I mean Really who puts cars in the garage.

any ways sorry for the diversion. :leave:

Found even more stuff to rework. I removed the "brackets in the center tunnel to make proper ones. I'm going to remount the handbrake lower.

I'm thinking I'll be working front to back once I get the rear cut off. I ordered some zirconia flap wheels to clean up all the welds I'm cutting. I am basically starting over with a blank locost chassis. Heck I'm even going to rework the seats and seat mounts. It will look like a proper locost up front. Visually the man difference will be the 110in wheelbase.

Another change will be the master brake cylinder. It sits up pretty high and will most likely need a bump out on the hood. I don't want to change how it it's mounted because the brake pedal is in the perfect position so I will convert it to a remote Resivore. I can use parts from a Nissan Quest to move the Resivore and mount it more inboard.

I hope it's not done yet, because right now the massive roll cage assembly terminates onto tiny top rails at the front. One way or another it needs to be solidly connected not just to the top tube but to the floor as well, else it's just a cosmetic add-on.

The cage isn't connected to anything at this point. I still have to cut 8 to 10in out of it to move the back of the cage forward. I'll be cutting the kink out of the top connecting bars. I am still in the demo phase and will be cutting even more out before I start putting it back together again.

I finished cutting the rear off the car. I have cut a significant amount of steal from the car. Between 70-100lbs lol. I squared the rear subframe up and went with a far simpler design. I still have to build the shock mounts so those look a little floppy in the pics.

I managed to reduce the wheelbase from 123 to 116. I cut the engine subframe down and corrected the suspension mounts. As the car sits it has 6in of ground clearance. I can lowered it as needed. The front does sit at 6.5in but with the weight of the fuel tank it should drop a little. I still have a fair amount of bracing to add to the rear subframe but it is a roller again. The engine now sits very close to the rear firewall but I like the way it looks.

Overall it looks more like a locost than before.

Love the new direction you are going. I just wanted to mention in case you haven't thought about it, you may want to include an access panel in the firewall or something, with as tight as you have that v6 in there you don't want to be dropping the engine out every time you have to do some maintenance or troubleshoot a vac leak or something. I'm only saying something because right now, if you just weld up the back of the passenger compartment, it looks like you'll need to drop the whole subframe just to change spark plugs and coil packs.

I took that into account and the firewall is just bolted in place. It's a very tight squeeze back there.

Evo, looks great, much improved! are you going to move the radiator up front too?

I have to commend you on making the hard decision to cut 40-50% of your previous work apart to make these improvements. high fives!

Thank you. I'm on the fence about a front mounted radiator and there is room in the back to mount it. I'll have to see. Anyway here are some more pics.
