Question for you guys,
The engine in the Cobra is a Ford SB crate (mild cam) Holley dbl pump. We have had hell trying to get the pop out of her during accell.
I'm Not a Holley guy  but thinking back to the Webber days many moons ago! Ive tried the recommended timing settings and all kinds of deviation of, and while it has solved the idle to on power popping, every now and then under load she coughs through the carb? also noticed I can't seem to get a steady idle? some times for no reason at a light after decell shes at 500 and struggling, blip the throttle and back to 850?
Any of you old school guys have any thoughts? Jetting?
Thanks
Pook

Yo PooK-

I talked this over with my buddy James, a long-time Ford mechanic. He suggested you check a few things, in order:
Base Timing
Total Timing Advance
Float levels, frnt and rear
Jets may be set too lean
Power valve may be too small

His take on it was that the carb is running lean on accelleration and popping back, which could be timing, especially if y'all had to "fiddle with" the timing to get the throttle tip-in to smooth out. So, check that first, and maybe put it back where it was originally.

Float levels, obviously, could be too low... And then jets, and don't forget the power valve, which affects mix on acceleration especially.

H-T-H

So it has a color gel coat and you have to paint it anyway? It probably means they are selling a lot of them, which is a little discouraging with the parts looking like that. It's a hard business to get into and then you see people that you know you can better then...

F5 is trying to produce their new 818 with gel coat body panels. The idea was to save a builder some money by providing a body that doesn't need work or paint (or at least that is what I thought). That's not encouraging. I hate body work, and it's one of the biggest items stopping me from a locost or kit car. With kids and such I may have to punt on the idea of ever having a two seater again and move on to slow jeeps and such.
