As some of you know, I was going to build a single seater DSR type vehicle to do track days with my son. That plan has blown up.
So I have most of the needed parts and a partial chassis done and I am getting tired of it taking up space in the basement. Not to mention I have $10K tied up in it already...it should be providing some fun to one and all!
I want to make it street legal here in MA. Lights, safety equipment and raise the 3 inch ride height should do it as far as making it a real car.
So looking at the meager info on the RMV website, motorcycles are exempt from emissions testing. Cars must meet the emissions standards of the year of the engine used.
Not really clear when you have a motorcycle engined car.
So...has anyone done this? Any other thoughts?

Cars have four wheels. Motorcycles have fewer in contact with the ground at any given moment.
They have been trying to tighten up on the loop hole of reverse trikes by forcing enclosed vehicles and/or having a steering wheel into a new category with more stringent rules than a motorcycle.

Even if you get a car with a bike engine titled, you may not be able to have it registered for road use if it can't pass emission inspection in your area based on the year on the title.

Register it in another state, or trailer it. :BH:

Titling in another state first is an option. That is what I did with my Seven (titled in NH...no longer on option), then I transferred without pain to MA after a few years. States that would be easy for me are PA, NJ, less easy but possible are CT and NY. Thoughts?
As far as MA goes, does anyone have contact information for someone in MA State government that I could get reliable guidance from?
