I moved to Texas from Nebraska in Jan 0f 2013. My 7 was registered in Nebraska. Texas requires an annual inspection. I went to DMV with my insurance card and had no problem getting car registered. Drove the car to inspection station and it passed with no issues, this was last year.

Inspection came due again this month. I had moved from College station to a small town (caldwell). I took car to the local ford dealer for inspection. Failed!!!! They said I needed a horn and a license plate light. No problem. I added those and went back. Inspector walked around car and said " I cant pass this car because it has no windshield wipers" DAMN!!! So I called SPEEDWAY and ordered a manual windshield wiper. Slight modification required (shortened the blade) and bada boom!! Passed!!!

Totally stupid requirement and it will be removed and stored behind the seat. Why the hell does a completely open car need a windshield wiper.

Think rule #2 should be "find a different inspection station!" :ack: Dave W

I don't really see why wether the car is open or not makes a difference in how much you can see thru the windshield when it's raining?

An open car might be less fun in the rain but I think it's common that if you have a windshield you need wipers...

I find that in my car, the inside of the windshield gets almost as wet as the outside. even with wipers, I can't see very well.
Actually, in my Locost and in my MGA, Rain-X works better than wipers for being able to see.

If only you'd had the horn and license light in the first place.

I'd look at the State inspection requirements. It may save you a few more trips.

Wiping is for the front. Defrosting is for the inside. Tops or overpasses are for when neither are good enough. :P

"Hey doc, it hurts when I do this."

Doc: "So don't do that."

Yea, I suppose you could have a car with aero that would make the rain miss the windshield and somehow manage to all hit the driver in the face. It would probably look at least a bit like a locost too.

In Houston, and I already had the 7 registered in Colorado before moving back here. I had no issue registering it at all. something like $200 bucks though. I've had it inspected twice now and the garage that did it first, did a short inspection the, checking all items like lights and horn and brakes. No mention of wipers on my Brooklands. I had to have a hand wiper on the drivers side for registration In Colorado though. The last time I got it done they just handed me the sticker and took $20 bucks. A friend, who is very into odd cars, told me that he didn't think I would get ticketed even without a sticker being as it was a hand built sort of car. couldn't say though. If you get screwed around in one place just go to another, these thing are very open to interpretation.
