I posted questions a while ago re Ontario Kit car licensing and ECS requirements. I finally got an answer from the Ministry and it is what I was hoping. Kit cars will not have to be equiped with ESC. Here is the message from MOT:

Thank you for your email. Please accept our apologies for the delay in responding. Due to the high volume of e-mail requests, the ministry has been experiencing delays in responding to these enquiries. We apologize for any inconvenience or frustration this matter may have caused.

To clarify, the registration requirements of Kit Cars have not been changed.

However, there is a possibility that the revised safety regulations may inadvertently prevent kit cars from getting a Safety Standards Certificate (SSC). The ministry is currently reviewing the relevant sections to determine if a clarification on interpretation is required.

Kit cars that meet Ontario’s requirements will still be able to be registered in Ontario.
Sincerely,

S. George | Sr.Enquiry Analyst

Caveat aside, that does sound like good news! Though I'm in BC, Ontario motor vehicle legislation inevitably works its way west, so a favorable interpretation is good news for all of us.

I would not worry. BC MoT is unlikely to go a different route. To impose ESC on kits cars would also mean to impose this on hot rods, modified antique cars and imported classics..... «It aint gone happen!»
