Looking for any tips on licensing and titling in Indiana.

If I use a (legally purchased) engine and transmission from a vehicle with a salvage title will I run into any problems if I don't have the title? I have a receipt and bill of sale to prove ownership.

The after talking to the BMV hotline ... who directed me to the local branch ... who had to search several cabinets, I uncovered the MVIN procedure. Sounds like this is the key step in the registration process.

At the top it indicates <$2,500 market value. The BMV rep said to ignore that. She also said there is no safety inspection. I'm a bit skeptical about the whole thing possibly because it's printed in COMIC SANS.

Has anyone gone thru the process and been able to verify one way or the other? I'm still trying to hunt down if there is a windscreen requirement.

You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Be sure the bill of sale has the VIN number of the vehicle the engine and trans came from. You should have the VIN for any major parts you purchase used. The same thing is needed when rebuilding a wreck.

When in doubt, go to the statutes. Memos, checklists, forms and affidavits are the practicaly application of the law, but only the law is the law.

Start here, particularly Articles 17 and 19:
