Apparently, this took place in 2012. The racer kept his cool and re-mounted the wheel mid-race. According to him, "Got a dab of oppo making a move at Donington Park into the old hairpin and then my steering wheel came off. Moral of the story - don't buy a cheap quick release boss from ebay!"

Had that happen in the F Mod this past summer during a Solo event

I never sat in it again without tugging on the wheel before launch

Luckily the car and wheels were all pointed the right direction when it happened!

They make quick releases with two grooves instead of one - gives you another shot if it doesn't catch on the main one.

With looser fitting hubs, some drill and tap the removable boss for a thumbscrew to take up an slop. A relief dimple in the hub would help lock it in to; just need a couple turns of the thumb screw before removing the wheel.

I had a shift knob come off in 2013 Chicago region Solo. Cost me about 1.5 seconds and a trophy.
