As an example: This is George Bowland's multi-time National Championship A-Mod car that he and son Todd built a few years back. (Todd was an aerodynamicist in Indy-car, now works for Joe Gibbs...)

Lots of wing, ground effects with skirts and big rear diffuser. Tube frame that's mostly roll cage. Power is a three-cylinder, two-stroke snowmobile motor driving thru a CVT of some kind. (I think the gearbox is also from a snowmobile.)
He came to one of our Dixie Region local events and
won overall by a margin of about 10 seconds. In addition to the Solo Nats championships, he was "King of the Hill" at several hill climb events with it. So, you may not "like" his car (I think it sounds like sh!t...), but it's hard to argue with the results.
