The diff is Lotus Elan, basically a Lotus rear casing with a Cortina nose piece. The output shafts were one of the weak spots.

I really do like those rear uprights.

Hi Rod, thanks for posting that note! A couple of weeks ago I spent hours trying to find that picture. I still like those uprights and will post the picture and start a thread about making something like them. I found a company for dune buggies that makes stub axle kits, that would work well with a design like that maybe...

Also good info on the diff. So people with the know how or patience or something to cast a new rear cover could make a good setup. That one looks more compact then the Miata.
