I stay in Mumbai, India.
Always dreamed about building a Locost 7.
Finally started the build.
Will let you guys know the progress.

Welcome aboard! You're a long way from the USA but the internet takes us everywhere. I instantly approved this post because of the imaginative rear suspension. A Locost with leaf springs is definitely thinking outside the box.

My car is based on Suzuki omni. Also known as Bedford Rascal, suzuki carry etc.
800 cc engine. It was easy to use the original leaf spring so I'm using the same. Front will be double wishbone.

Howdy "Swap"-
Cool looking chassis you've got there. I had to look up "Bedford Rascal" and "Suzuki Carry" to see what you were working with. It's a little "kei class" truck/minivan thing, for the rest of y'all that don't know. Interesting... But totally in the "Locost Spirit" of using what's available and inexpensive. Good on ya!

I drove and raced an MGB for years. They had leaf springs in the rear, as did several of the older Jaguars. No reason it won't work for you!

There's been discussion about mono leaf suspension before, but that's an awesome way of using them! Will you be using a panhard bar as well? or what will you be using to laterally locate the rear end?

I haven't gotten to the point of designing my rear suspension yet.. but you have me intrigued seeing as my donor has rear leafs as well.. albeit for a vehicle that's way heavier, but that's nothing that pulling a couple leafs out wouldn't hurt.

This setup won't have panhard rod. I mean original car doesn't have it. So I think I won't put it. My car had four leafs/ leaves. I put 3 of them aside.

Welcome to our group. I think you'll find is a friendly forum with a lot of helpful advice.

For everyone else here, let this build show how you don't need a big garage to build a Locost.

I was looking at your rear suspension and think that you might want to consider adding a gusset and another tube to reduce the stress into the halfway point in the vertical tube (seat back). Please excuse the bad drawing.

Important thing is that I dont have garage. I dont know welding, cutting etc. I am not an engineer.
Its just passion.

What are you planning on doing for seating? with the leaf mount intruding upwards into the cockpit, you'd either lose width or height. Do you plan on mounting the seat above the perch?

Yes, more pics of the rear axle area of the chassis, from different angles; I'm mystified about the attachment of the bottom of the tube that rx7locost drew the two red lines to.

PS--hey everybody, is it my imagination, or have folks on this site been getting creative lately?
PPS--swapnilnimbalkar, re the panhard rod, it depends on what you're going to use your car for. For best sporting results (like autocrossing, or flinging it around mountain roads) you'll want a stiffer lateral axle locater than those leaf springs. I think. But get driving first, you could add a panhard bar later if you want it.

I ll be using it for city driving only. That too on sundays or holidays.

No racing here in India

Ill consider panhard rod only after driving for some time.

Yes im planning to mount the seat above the perch. Ill compromise height.
