Honda S2000 drivetrain, including the entire rear subframe assembly. Using the McSorely 4+4+2 frame
dimensions, (mostly). Inspection Authorized, former trauma helicopter (EC135) lead mechanic. 6 years into my own General Aviation repair shop, with MANY projects under my belt. Here’s some pics of my messy ‘build’ room.

Dammitt, still inverted. Anyways, the Miller Dynasty 250 Inverter Tig machine will apply jewel like welds throughout. I will savor every weld, I’m in no hurry. Here’s my meticulous gyrocopter, of my own design, in for maintenance after 210 flight hours.

Here’s the kickass Honda rear subframe assy, seems like a no brainer.

You've got to quit flying inverted!

Cheers,
Roy

The subframe may e totally kickass in a Honda, but it probably offers you little in your car. Your car is not a Honda. It looks like you have a bunch of good experience and skills. If you build a frame to hold the subframe, it's probably just as easy to build a frame to hold your suspension. Production cars always have baggage and issues that may not apply to you and what you are trying to do.

As you get into it you will probably find the Honda parts ( subframe and arms etc. ) just heavier and bulkier than you need. You don't need to build to airplane standards of weight, but still...

We should move this thread to the build log section, if you don't mind, unless you goal is ask a bunch of frame design and build questions.

Welcome and glad to have you aboard!

[quote="FIXANDFLY2015"]Honda S2000 drivetrain,
I did not know helicopters could fly on their back.
Welcome to the forum. You will find here a wealth of experience in the field of sevenesques, as well as friendly moral support in your build. The Honda S2000 I believe is an outstanding power plant for a rear engine Seven and you seem to be remarkably qualified to launch in this adventure.

I could just imagine everyone standing on their heads looking at the pictures as I did... :)

Dan-
Much better right side up.

Looks like you've got a nice shop environment setup.

Good luck with your S2000 drive train and 442 chassis.

I've got mine up and driveable and great fun to drive.

Cheers,
Roy

Wow! That’s beautiful Roy. Did you use the Honda IRS?
I have a million questions for you.

Dan-
Yes I used the S2000 IRS. It was a perfect fit and very easy to mount. See the first page of my build log for a few details. I really like the S2000 rear end more than the Mazda Miata IRS from that standpoint. There are also a wide variety of differential ratios available for the Honda IRS.

I had to change the dash on the S2000 Locost from what you see in the photo above because in the sun it was impossible to see the readout. The photo below shows the change.

Cheers, Roy

Are you Dan Lockwood or FIXANDFLY2015? Sorry for the mix-up, I wasn't sure who was who.
Roy
