Should I be removing the mill scale when making my wishbones?

You should use better steel, that doesn`t have mill scale. DOM is what I used.

Grind, sand, or wire wheel down to bright metal. You'll be OK after that.

The scale can cause bubbles in the weld; not something you want in a suspension weldment.

For tubing i use a 40grit flap wheel. The scale on plate/sheet is a lot thicker - soaking in vinegar takes the scale right off.

Somehow, I have a little trouble putting "Class act" and "Y'all" in the same sentence, while still keeping a straight face!
