Can anyone think of a way to make a Mustang II spindle into a top steer ?
I see one brake hanger hole(may not be ?) that could be used but will need more ?

Ream the taper from the opposite side, buy a ready made taper to fit then drill out the spindle and braze into the hole, or drill out the taper to fit a rod end and grade 8 fasteners and steel spacers if needed. The last option is fully adjustable to fine tune bumpsteer.

More playing with the idea. As you can see the motor is going to be way back from where the 908's motor is.

Thinking about some kind of cover/fill to keep the look ? Something like this. Think it works ?

And what about pushing the motor ahead in the chassis ? Say 3" ? Could the CV joints take that as long as the axles were long enough ?
Can't seam to find anything on the net ?

And from the side. Think I can make this work.

Under all conditions/rpms? Probably not. You could shorten the wheelbase to eliminate the extra space.

Its 90" wb now. But I want the look more. I didn't think it could be moved out of line .Up and down ok but not front to rear.As for rpm some where in the 6200-6400 range.

Not sure how it will affect the handling ? Even with my fat ass up front their will be a bias to the rear.

Miatav8,your a smart guy, could a adapter be built to space the motor ahead of the trans-axle ?
It would need to have a area in it to push the pressure plate / through out bearing. And some kind of sub shaft which may cost to much to make ? And also maybe be a alignment could be a problem ?
Something like the 944 but shorter.

I wish I could stop thinking. :BH:

Probably this would not interest you but here it goes. By using a VW IRS transmission for which there are readily available adapters to the Subaru, you could procure longer than standard axles meant to be used for off-roading with oversized Porche CV's.Very strong and capable of some serious misalignment.

Since you are not actually changing anything (i.e. adapting) a steel 3 inch crank spacer and an aluminum 3 inch block spacer would work. Need to offset the holes to clear on the crank and pickup the pilot bearing and concentric ring, special longer bolts for the bell.

I know what you mean about thinking. I start out just wanting aluminum heads on a carbed 2.8l v6 and end up justifying a 3400 turbo with speeduino! Sticking to the 2.8 for now. You might get it going as-is leaving room for those mods. A lot could happen between now and then.

Also saw that Alfa Romeo used a rear mounted diff /trans-axle. May have a look into that. That is what the 908-3 had.

Just don't have any idea how to connect the EZ30 to it ?

Urg. The DeTomaso Pantera had the engine and transaxle pushed at least that far back to get the water pump out of the driver's elbow space. I've forgotten how far, but it was at least that much; it's easy to see.

Most cars came with ordinary U-joints; CVs are a common upgrade, but other than being worn out (most cars are over forty years old) the joints aren't a problem. And some of the Pantera guys run *serious* horsepower in the Silver State type events.

Found another one. Porsche 924 (79-80) and the 928 transaxle ? Something called the snailshell.
Would need to maybe cut up a Subaru case to get a bell housing and then their will be the shafts.
