My old S-10 shop manual say

The UBS is the axle ratio code

The C is for the Buffalo plant

The 293 Is the julian Date

The 1 is 1st shift

The 3.41 is the standard ratio for the "s" truck.

Can't tell by the casting numbers, Typical there is a steel tag attached to the upper RH bolt on the axle cover. That my give an indication, or it can be traced by the serieal numbers on the ring gear.

Dave,
I saw where the tag was. Just a little piece left under the bolt. I do have the diff out so I'll take a look at the serial number on the ring gear.
