I have an Exedy ZF502 flywheel mounted on a 2.3l Duratec that came out of a 2008 Ranger. The flywheel is specifically for the Duratec from the 2007 Focus and is a slightly smaller diameter. In fact, it is just too small for the Ranger starter gear to engage the teeth of the flywheel. The Focus starter has a somewhat larger starter gear. Will the Focus starter fit the same bolt spacing as the Ranger starter? I find it hard to believe that Ford would make the machining different for the two versions. Has anyone run into this before?

The starters should be interchangeable, so you can simply run the starter that matches the flywheel application...However, to the best of my knowledge and research on the subject, the Focus clutch/flywheel doesn't align properly with the Ranger transmission/bearing. That's why I was trying to get a lightweight Ranger flywheel made a couple of years ago...An endeavor of which *might* soon (a relative term) actually bear fruit.
