So I thought I'd share some info I can't find by Googling, even though I posted it elsewhere. I have adapted a Nissan FS5W71C to a SBC 350, and it was fairly easy. I got it from an '85 300ZX, and it will want a numerically lower axle ratio, more like 2.73:1, but the ricers run it up to 400 horses. And if you can score a Z-car version of the FS5R30A, it has similar gearing and runs with 600 horses. Adapting it to the 350 should be exactly the same. Aftermarket shifters for it are obvious, but for the W71C you search eBay for 240SX versions. The NV3500 has the same shaft spacing as a T56, and the good ratios are 3.49/2.16/1.40/1.00/0.73, and were factory offered behind the Vortec 350 in the '96 C1500, but the 4.3L S-10 version has the better shift tower, supposedly. The ratios don't seem sporty on paper, but they drive fine and there are guys claiming they survive turbo LSx C1500s. I think B&M offers a shifter for the S-10s. The Mustang-spec Tremec 3650 is very strong, and can in fact be adapted to Chevy, the easiest way is an adapter plate on the block that bolts to a second adapter plate on the transmission, which uses an integral bellhousing for the Modular. Toyota's Supra Turbo transmissions are decent, but if you get one, sell it and buy something else. The '90-up 300ZX uses the same trans for turbo and non, same strength, same ratios, same shifter, same bellhousings.
