Looking at an '02 Impreza WRX. Question is, interference or clearance engine?

No worries. Old subaru fan. Be careful with the transmission if you're using the 5 speed, bit on the weak side. I don't recall all the years the oil pickup tube was prone to cracking, but it was a risk on my old STi. Killer B makes a stainless pickup tube that's a great upgrade. I assume you're doing the t-belt, mane sure to do the tensionsr and idler too, the bearings sometimes like to let go. Also, use a good tune. The Cobb OTS is great but these engines are very responsive to changes in the exhaust and if you change it, I would suggest a custom tune. Romraider works great for that.

ZiG, I'll be in touch if the deal goes through. Asking for my son. The Subie is going for a great price, but its definitely a project car and needs some TLC. It's certainly in better shape than the Integra that Erik is driving now. It would probably be best if that one was just allowed to return to its basic elements. Drive train is in decent shape. Maybe I should grab it and do a "Midlana"! Nah, too many irons in the fire already.
