Now the manufacturers are at the point that you have to know your TRIM level or they cannot look it up.
Some models use different parts depending on which plant they were assembled in!
For a 1997 Miata I was told by the dealership that it is too old, they don't have listings for it.
This despite the fact that the same basic parts were used for several years.
I wound up having to buy a new transmission input shaft seal from Amazon as neither the factory or alleged Mazda specialist had it.

I've worked the last 3 years as a Mazda dealer partsman. There is absolutely no reason they can't look up all Miata's, down literally to rivets in the top bows. We can't look up first gen RX7's, "officially", but I do a couple times a year using a third party site, and the parts are at the warehouse. We can't look up JDM cars.
We absolutely *do* need the last 8 of the VIN, and I've been known to hang up if I am given attitude over that.

Hmm, OK, let me clarify RE Miata parts.
Not available from my local Carson City Nevada, dealership.
There may be an issue with this dealership, or maybe just that particular employee.
Never asked for any of the VIN before stating "Too old".

From my experience this is not a Mazda issue, it's pretty much industry wide.
I find the "That's too old, trade it it in on a new one" particularly galling from companies that make grandiose claims about what a large percentage of their product is "Still on the road".
Certainly not from THEIR support!

I guess I was just lucky. Had a Toyota Dealer in Omaha that would even try to source JDM parts for me. And the Mazda dealer was the same. Never anything big and don't recall what the Toyota guy got but the Mazda folks were very helpful with rear suspension bits. A little pricey however.

Aww, shucks. I've had to train a few dealership parts guys to believe me when I tell them "I don't have a VIN for this, but I have exact part number from the old microfiche/parts catalog/comp system."

Poor guys are so used to "I need parts for a blue ford 2 door, the engine makes clunks." that exact part numbers make them skittish.

Some people never have anything except ideas. Go do it.
Emissions & fuel economy haven't exactly been areas of strength for past rotary power plants, but absolutely no one with a soul has ever cared.

Back to the JH. Pretty sure it would fit in a shorter, wider frame. Something like these.
