Hi all :
Would a Toyota diesel pu be a good donor for a 7?
Hubs,Rear end, drive shaft, trans, ect ect
The engine appears to be locked up (ran out of oil)
It was a freebie
What are your thoughts?
THANK YOU ALL

I am using an Isuzu pickup, or at least I started with one. It is 2WD, and I hope your freebee is too. The big issue is being stuck with heavy six-stud hubs and uprights. If you are not using the engine the Diesel final drive might be good because it should have a decent reduction ratio: but it will be heavy (my Isuzu axle is 195lbs, hub face to hub face). 'Free' is sometimes not the best selection criterion!

I am one of the few here who built a diesel 7. I enjoyed the car which was powered by a VW TD bolted to a Suzuki Samurai transmission and a Ford rear axle. The car was very torquy and pleasing to drive but lacked the feeling of acceleration that a gas engine provides. I ended up retrofitting my seven to a gas Jetta engine. In your case the cost of rebuilding the Toyota diesel engine will be very high. Diesel engines because of the high precision fuel injection system are expansive to rebuild. I had my VW TD rebuilt to the cost of $ 6000 CAN. Having said that, nothing is keeping you from using the Toyota's components and find a matching gas engine somewhere else. Hope this is useful to you.

Thank you !
Yes it is 2wd 5 lug wheels.
Free is not always. I think I will look for a Pinto.

With the five lug wheels I think it would be pretty similar to a S10 build. I briefly had a '82 Toyota truck that I was going to use a donor for a really rough Honda S600. Stripped down it looked decent. For free I'd use the uprights, brake cylinder and rear axle. Not the engine though.
