Kung-Flu is leaving me with too much time and not enough funds.
So roughing out future projects.

Want a trans to go behind a Geo 1.0 3-Cyl., 50 - 70 HP.
I know the Samurai trans have been used but are also bulky, with a 4WD box or empty 4WD casting.
Some folk claim "Miata is always the answer" but I think they are rather long even if they do shift nice.
Since I have not paid attention to modern econo-box's I have no idea what might be RWD, if anything is anymore.

Hmm, I remember now that I have a Porsche 914 (901) tail-shift transmission sitting on the shelf.
Was looking at something like a 1/4 Midget replica with front engine for simplicity but a Midi Terrapin type would be fun too.

Just a couple more months until I begin to have "Free" time.

You don't need any of the 4x4 parts to use the Samurai tranny. It will bolt up to your 3cyl motor and all you need is the prop shaft. You can't beat that Samurai 5 speed tranny ratios. Russ

My understanding has been that even the 2WD Sammy trans had a large 4WD casting on it.
I have a couple of the Geo engines so could just do both.
Need to find pics.

Nope. The transfer case is a separate item. The tranny and BH weigh about 60 pounds

looks like I am looking for a good Sammy trans then.
Never expected to line up three eventual Suzy engine builds.
Pretty certain most of my builds will remain LBC or U.S. V powered.
Partly because I beleive simplicity and nostalgia will sell better than a here today obsolete tomorrow build.
Now if I may just figure out how to put a set of SU's on a G10! :)
A single Weber is probably simpler.

The FWD engines have the distributor driven off the bellhousing end of the camshaft, forcing the engine forward or notching the firewall for most installations. The Samurai engines had a right-angle adapter on the distributor so they could push the engine back against the firewall.

I've read some of the third-gen FWDs had a distributorless ignition.

BTW, the first year or two of SOHC engines had dual-advance distributors even though they were fuel injected. I used one of those and did some machine work and put a Holley/Weber 5200 two barrel carburetor on one for a guy who was going to use it for a generator.

Somewhere around here I have a mystery single DCOE Weber manifold I got really cheap.
Never could identify what it is intended for.
I have run single Weber on a 1500 Spitfire so know the single Weber is enough carb for a 1.0.
Cut and weld may get me there.

Really looking forward to next month as I may get some good financial news and go shopping.
Windfall $ are rare nowadays, so I will try to cover as many of the Big Ticket items as I may.
Even though some of the projects are well down the road.

For the moment mostly wrenching on my truck and Mom's XJ6.

I used a Mitsubishi transmission out of a Hyundai stellar in my locost, it's pretty tiny as well and weighs somewhere around 60 lbs with the bellhousing. Decent ratios too. Holds up fine to roughly 200 HP and autocross IMG with slicks. The car may not have been sold in the USA, but the transmission is a Mitsubishi KM112.

After the deal I made this morning I will now have three Sammy trans to play with.
Should be enough for the two planned builds.

Now I need a couple of TR7 rear axles.
