I understand that "Max" is going to be there. He is speaking at 2:30 Sunday. Russ

You understand right on the time I'll be speaking, but sadly, you understand wrong re my wheels--I'll be driving Jim Fujioko's three cylinder (Geo Metro engine swap) Miata. It's an even-cheaper-than-MAX shot at a high mileage car, and possibly/hopefully more acceptable to the typical 'murican car person, what with electric windows and the like. See...

I had hopes of bringing a co-driver on this jaunt, but it didn't work out, and I can only drive one car at a time.

Jim did a nice engine conversion. When I get the car back to Oregon I'll Locostify (with optional MAX body) the power train and send the P of S Miata body to the crusher.

Exactly. The body is amazingly horrible, it's a Michigan winter car, on salted roads since 1990...I wrote on both doors with felt pen:

Rust Research Vehicle
-Control Group-
do not wax, paint, or repair

Which is why I didn't see very many of the normal donor vehicles on my first attempt at building a locost (I was living in Michigan). The RX7's were either long rusted or were someone's baby. The Miatas were likewise rusted or high mileage or were someone's baby.

There were once billions (okay, slight exaggeration) of Pintos and Chevettes... all gone. And the S10's were mostly total rust buckets when I found them.

Here in NC, it's not uncommon to see a car with a nice body, with a decent paint job, sitting in the junk yard.
