After four years and 40K miles, the old Locost is looking a little worse for wear. I recently bought new wheels, and repainted the exhaust this past weekend, so it still looks okay but the miles have taken their toll on the paint, grille, windscreen, interior, and just about everything else on the car. Some of the vinyl bits have worn through. Dust and grease have gotten into places that were bright green or black when the car was new.

I'm not really complaining, Cars don't always look like new after four years. But sometimes I think about taking the whole car apart, cleaning or repainting everything, and putting it back together. Sort of like a frame-up restoration. Maybe it's too soon. I'm curious if other long-term Locost builders have thought about this as the miles pile up.

Just adds "Character".
Car looks fine unless you are going for concourse.
A little detailing once a month should bring it into satisfactory shape pretty quickly.

Reminds me of a quote from my youth, "Real Hot Rods have stone chips". I'd say it applies to these cars very well!

Yupper!!
47K and LOTS of stone chips on the rear fenders, plus nose and scuttle scratches from setting on the hood. I'm thinking about new paint job next year, but need to come up with a soft rubber "J" lip seal that I can put on the edge of the hood to save the new paint. Dave W

Never. I do wash it once a month before Cars & Coffee, but it's harder and harder each time to get it looking all sparkly and nice.

For 40,000 miles, I'd view a little wear and tear as a mark of pride. Way too many garage queens out there.

Look at the Auburn-Cord-Dusenberg guys. They hold concours events at South Bend, and they view rock chips and road grime as proof that the car made it to the event under its own power, which they view as far more important.

Drive your car and enjoy it. That's what it is for.

Seen in a car window at Road America vintage races last week.

I was wondering if you came down again for the races. I was there this year too. Next year I am going to have to get your number and meet up.
