I took a metal shaping class at the shop of a fellow building one. To make one for $1,500 I think you would have to do a 90% of the work yourself - sort of like a mini-Locost project. Here's what his looked like at that time. He built almost everything himself.

It looks like it would be fun, and reasonably low cost. I didn't ask him how much money he had into it.

Cheers,

I'd love to build one someday, but considering the extremely limited event options, it wouldn't be worth it to me unless I had an excess of free time on my hands. My first inclination is to do a Morgan 3-wheeler with a 150cc GY6 at the appropriate power level. I'd also want to try some type of exhaust trickery to make is sound less single-cylindery.

I didn't even know they had events. I just thought it would be fun for tooling around in the neighborhood

Not everywhere does, but some places certainly do. The biggest cyclekart event in the country, at least to the best of my knowledge, would actually be the closest one to me too:

The thing to remember about cyclekart racing though, is that their motto is basically "if you're trying to win, you're doing it wrong".

Very cool. Kind of like when I first heard about Locosts. I knew I had to build one. Took five years to get started, but at least I knew when I was done I'd have a vehicle I could drive anywhere. Not so much with a cyclekart. Still, if they ever catch on around here, I'll have to do it.

Nice, Dave.
Good to see you building again. You should start a build log; that would be interesting.

What was the rationale for all the positive camber in old race cars?

Are you talking about from when most of the roads were dirt? If so it's supposed to keep you headed in a straight line instead of having the dirt/sand head you off in a direction you don't want to go.

Oh, sure... Just because mine has a quad-turbo V12 Allison with nitrous, they get all picky about it!
