Was waiting to exit a parking lot when I was smacked up the rear by a full size Ford Super Duty pick-up. Driver claims he didn't see me?

In any case, the fellow was very apologetic and cooperative.

Fiberglass tub got crunched.

The gas tank seems to be intact. As soon as I settle-down a bit, I'll climb under to see if there's any frame damage.

Damn.....and the nice weather just rolled in!

Replacement 'Glass tub is available?

If he "Didn't see you" be glad you were not on a bike, or a pedestrian.
Take the car to a proper frame shop for inspection, his insurance should cover it.

I hope you got the incident fully recorded with the police and any witnesses.
I friend of mine had a mint XKE damaged in similar fashion.
At the time the guy who hit him was all "Mea Culpa", but later claimed that Mark had backed into him!
Mark has permanent neck injuries and the XKE Monocoque will never be the same.

I despise the modern vehicles, particularly trucks, that obscure anything close to their front ends.
Makes it even more important that the operator pays attention BEFORE they get close to other objects.

Trog,
Sorry to hear this. Hopefully dealing with the "dumpster fire" wont be too difficult as it was a rear end collision. I'm always leery of any cars on the road when driving any sports cars, the drivers here (lower mainland) these days don't seem to be aware of most things on the road.

Update:

So I crawled under the '7' to survey the damage.....lucky me....buddy missed the fuel tank by 6-inches. In fact, no structure was damaged at all. Just crunched the fiberglass which I'm confident I can restore.

I'm not sure if new body panels are still available for this model...I've got an e-mail into the Westfield factory to investigate.

I had the presence of mind to have the PU truck driver sign a statement at the accident site where he admits to driving into me...which may come in handy as ICBC (government insurance provider), refuses to accept my claim until buddy files a report.

What a crazy government insurance system!!!

Probably true, as the alternative is he saw you, but chose to hit you anyway.

I got rear ended in my Locost a dozen years ago or so. A woman in a van stopped for people in a crosswalk, I stopped behind the van, and the young woman behind me (who as she pointed out, WASN'T SPEEDING and it was a 35 mph zone) didn't stop for nuthin'. She didn't see me because my car was too little, is it legal to drive a car that little? Well then did she see the van? No, because my car was blocking her view. One way or another, it was all my fault.

Reminds me of a case from thirty years ago, a woman was protesting her ticket (and responsibility) for a crash that resulted from her pulling out in front of a motorcycle which did not have its headlight on, which was/is a violation of Oregon law. How did you know his headlight wasn't on? Well I could see it plain as day. So you saw him, and you pulled in front of him anyway? Well yes but his headlight wasn't on, so he's the real criminal...

Our governments issue you a driving permit as a privilege for a monetary price and proof of driving knowledge.
In my opinion some people do not deserve that privilege no matter what they pay.

Update:

I passed by the ICBC Government car insurance damage appraiser today. The '7' sure attracted lost of attention and questions. Took a while for them to complete their computerized damage assessment as they don't have this model, or anything like in in their system.

In any case, the damage estimate comes in below $2000, which from my understanding, is the cost threshold for the car to earn a damage declaration on its profile.

Now, does anyone know if ICBC will cut me a check and allow me to repair the car myself? I'm loathe to let anyone touch this car but me! I've seen how body shops around here treat the cars in their care...and there's no friggin way I would let them touch my baby!

Is a body section available for the repair?
Would be cleaner and simpler since it's 'Glass.

The Westfield factory are unable to confirm if body panels are available for this vintage. In any case, I'm confident I can repair the existing tub...matching the paint will be a challenge. This may be the impetus I need to repaint BRG.

A not uncommon problem for Locost owners dealing with insurance companies. Many have found it helpful that they can point to the bottom of kineticvehicles.com and see what a ready-to-drive Locost sells for from the (cough, cough) factory.

Trog,
I don't know if either of these guys are ICBC accredited, but you could try Steve Sillett at Panelcraft, he's just off river road, east of the tunnel. He did the paint on my car. Or you could try RWM & Co at Boundary Bay airport, but they might be a bit more $$$.

But, as far as ICBC cutting you a cheque, I'm not sure they do that anymore.

ICBC is indeed giving me a hard time with my desire to fix the car myself. With 40 years of car restoration, I know I can do a better job than any body shop.

They said they will call me back in a few days and let me know.

Where is the tank located on the Westie? One thing that I've never liked about most Locosts is how the fuel tank is a defacto crumple zone.
