Love what you've done with the place! TWWTFM wants to know if you're married... She says that last shot looks like my living room when we met.

That all came to an end when she found a cylinder head in her dishwasher.

I really liked the old color but it was probably too easy on the eyeballs to register with the average zombie driver.

Ooohhh. Nice, shiny fresh paint. Looks like John Deere colors you got there. JK.

I think the green is a little darker than John Deere?

With painting complete and the paint nicely cured, it's time to enter the Cut & Polish stage of this project.

I've been reading all I can on the subject and a recurring theme is to take your time, and avoid at all costs cutting through the clearcoat.

As I have a spare bonnet, I figured I would us it to practice and hone my skills...

I'm not sure if I'm going far enough with the sanding as there remains a few pin-points where the clear remains shiny. I'm hoping the machine polish will knock these down?

(It's hard to capture the surface detail in the photo)

I remember an old episode of American Hot Rod about the Boyd Coddington shop. The painter talked about right out of the spray booth the clear being at F L A stage and that it needed to be sanded and polished to look good.

Someone asked F L A?

Yeah, Fat Ladies Ass, you know the cellulite dimply stuff. We sand that off to get the paint flat before buffing.

I laughed too hard and got in trouble.

I've made some decent progress.....car is painted, and clear coat has been applied.

Now the bad news...seems I have a bad case of 'solvent-pop' or perhaps I had water in my air supply? Although I had a water separator in my air line, I applied the clear coat on the hottest day of the summer which in hindsight, was probably a bad move.

In any case, I may have to re-apply the clear coat (next year, perhaps).

Now all I have to do is reassemble the car, then wait a month and do a final polish.

Aaand that's why I never intend to use a clear-coat type paint.
Paint is hard enough without adding an additional chance at having issues. :BH:

Almost done. I sure would like to replace the original 7-inch headlamps with something smaller. Perhaps 4-inch bullet style motorcycle headlights?

I got some 5" headlights from a Dune Buggy supplier. Sorry can't supply the name but it was an eBay thing.

Just ordered a pair of these 4-inch chopper headlights from Lowbrow Customs.

Should do the trick!

Good find! Those will work nicely!

If you find there isn't much difference between hi and lo beam or sharp cut offs in low so it has to be aimed low to prevent blinding on-coming traffic, a 5-3/4 motorcycle bucket will accept a 5006 bulb or H4 bulb holder. High quality holders are available with DOT and E code configurations. E code is much better for reducing glare than DOT. Those are so small and glass, they may be e code.

Just in time for the second half of summer.
