I am posting this from another forum most of you are aware of...

Stolen from my garage in Seattle, WA some time last night.

The car: 96' Caterham Classic live axle, yellow nose, bare aluminum body and bonnet, green clamshell wings and rear fenders, chasis # SDKLLKANSV0020637, black bench seats. 13" steel wheels, no spare, side exhaust. dual webbers, 1.7l crossflow. Other identifying features would be the ceramic coating that is flaking off the exhaust headers, missing driver-side carpet, and red 4-point driver's harness (passenger side is the stock 3-point).

So please keep your eyes open for anyone trying to sell parts, and PM me if you have any information. Thanks!

Here is a link to the USA7's site that shows photos of the said 7.

Well...rats! Big ones! I'll keep an eye out, and if somebody offers me a great deal on some 7 parts (or the whole car) I'll get right to you.

Damn, that sucks! Will definitely be keeping a close eye out. Seems like it shouldn't be too hard to identify.

Don't overlook checking in with the local tracks as well. Someone might be looking for an easy entry track car! No one there passes a car a second glance unless they know about it! Titles are NEVER checked!

I really hadn't given theft much of a consideration, but maybe a couple of kill/disable features are in order! Times to revisit my roots in car stereo and alarms!!

Hoping you get it back in one piece. That's a fine looking auto!

Fingers Crossed!

Good news
Car was recovered across town- abandoned after running out of gas.
Thank goodness for small tanks!

I'm amazed it wasn't found wrapped around a tree with two bodies in it. Anyone just hopping into a Locost and expecting it to drive like an ordinary car is in for a surprise. Must have be younger thieves with good reflexes...

Or real old thieves with not enough nerve to push the go pedal too far down.

Either way, good news that you got your car back.

I'm sure it has occurred to you that there is a good possibility that it was taken by someone you know. At the very least, by someone who knew what you had in the garage. I'm thinking of where I should be keeping all of my keys, as well as some clever anti-theft devices.

Just curious, how were they able to start it?

A Ford Kent engine probably just needs you to short a couple of wires. It would take some real work to hide or make them in unavailable. Not like a wiring harness for a modern car.

This could be a good option for MegaSquirt! Keep the real fuel map on a USB key, the default map could be set to cause huge backfires, or fire that other ignition coil into the steering wheel or dash. Then set off the on board fire system. Hmmm, perhaps first it would fire the windshield washer nozzle mounted under dash at the driver. Then the shocking, then the fire system to put the driver fire out and prolong the agony. That should do. Firing an airbag under the drivers seat after all that would just be overkill. :rotfl:

We used to have Model T coil "shockers" built into the passenger seat!!. I electrified the whole car by having a bead type chain hanging down below the car so it would touch the road (or a water puddle) as a high school bully repeller. If the ground was a little damp you could get shocked by just touching the car.

You must have seen this Russian youtube video of the guy sitting on an airbag!!

Lordy, I'm glad they didn't take MAX! We'd have found it in Rawlins Wyoming!
(That's great news, and thank goodness they ran out of motion lotion before they figured out how to exceed its cornering capabilities.)

The absolute best anti theft device is a flat tire, bar none.
