Tried multiple devices and no site found so probably not just me.
Was getting to be afraid the site was crashed forever!
Hope pics and links survived this time.

"Profile" edit still not working.
Had sort of hoped the hiatus might have gotten some repair done.

Is it just me, or all the photos in the threads gone? I think that this happened on the last crash too, which required having to re-upload all the photos again.

Rats, looks like you are right.
Seems this forum needs to migrate to a more current version of the OS?

This site seems to go through periodic down times, often with a loss of data. We (users) have tried asking the Admin whether contributions would help, if money is the problem, and typically hear nothing. Perhaps the Admin has moved on in his life and seldom checks whether this site is still running. It's open to speculation because we're never informed. And let's not forget about the broken user profiles...

I highly recommend that you retain copies of any pictures or posts that are important to you. Every time this happens, it only justifies the decision I made to create my own website.

I don't think it requires much speculation, of the five listed Admins:

-Chet, hasn't logged in since 2014;
-mr.peabody.d, hasn't logged in since 2017;
-dhempy, logged in on 25 Aug, which I suspect is why the board may be back up and running, but hasn't posted anything for about 2 years;
-violentblue, hasn't logged in for almost a year;
-horizenjob, fairly active.

Might be time to remove four of said Admin and get some fresh ideas.

So far, and this could change, even the page 1 photos from my build log are missing. I have copies of all the photos I've posted, but not those posted to my build log by others. That's a pretty good degree of content. I actually do look back at posts made by others in my log as there have been some excellent suggestions made, but it's a while after the posts before I get to the actual work that was discussed.

It really would be nice to have this site managed professionally. It's really is an online community. It's the only online community where I participate regularly.

Like many of you have mentioned after other crashes, I'm perfectly fine with making contributions to keep it running smoothly.

Cheers,

Some years ago I instigated the creation of a website/lobbying group to address some specific Gov. Org abuse of our 2A and related civil rights.
The site grew rapidly and we had some fantastic content.
I was the moderator until it became a full time job which interfered with my actual job.
It takes more time than you might expect vetting new members and banning scammers or saboteurs.

Our efforts were effective enough that another "Proffe$$ional" group formed.
Sponsored by the big money boys for the purpose of blunting us by luring away members to the "Professional" site. We were rocking the boat they were comfortable in as the issues were not such a problem for them.
The old site still exist as a reference library but once I had to give up being moderator the interactive features all ended.

Long way around to say moderation is not easy and volunteers are hard to find.
The best option is generally to have the most up to date BB version available with anti-scam features to make the Mod's job simpler.
At least this site should not have much issue with deliberate sabotage.

RE: Photos
I use the [ img ] code & 3rd party photo hosting. At least on pg 1, all of my photos are still up on my log.

Glad this place is back up & running. It's one of 3 forums that I'm regularly active on.

Unfortunately there is no perfect solution. The problem with 3rd party hosting is when they go under and/or go Photophuckit, resulting in massive (manually and individually recoverable only) image losses.

If this is anything like last time, the site is in an interim state and anything posted now will be lost when the replaced with the recovery copy. So we're likely to have some recent data losses, and I wouldn't post anything right now that I wouldn't expect to lose or need to repost again later, but the vast majority should come back... It is a good reminder though to have all your important photos (and even posts) backed up in multiple places to be able to recover/repost the from.

My interests are pretty diverse, spending time here, a koi forum, a machinist forum, an astronomy forum, and my own site. Out of these, this one has the poorest reliability. That said, it could be worse here. As an example, here's a screenshot of the threads on the "koi" forum that are most popular. Note the near lack of actual subject content. Also note how enormous the threads are, as those are number of pages, not posts. Most all were created by women... just sayin', but I digress. At least we stay pretty focused on the subject at hand.

Thanks to the forum's moderators this is a well run and (for me) a truly useful website. Sure there are a few glitches from time to time and some unresolved problems, but the pain is worth the gain. I would be willing to contribute $ to its upkeep, but this has not yet been possible. I expect this is a labor of love for our moderators.

After a prior crash I reloaded some lost pictures and began saving my build log by "printing" its pages as PDFs stored on my own computer. Even added a keyword index. Given my lengthening build time and shortening memory this is an important reference document for me, particularly if there is ever a terminal crash.

But the best part of the forum is the camaraderie of like-minded and very creative individuals building cars in their sheds. It keeps me building...

:cheers:

Sure glad site is back, but as per the 2019 failure won't be posting anything in the interim months as any backup recovery will likely wipe out the new posts. Have been running a twin thread on another forum anyway (since all electronic information can disappear in an instant it pays to have a backup) so will continue on that until this site is repaired.

I find these build logs really motivating and a great resource, but it's the contributors that make it so entertaining.

:cheers: to Dave and Horizenjob for the behind the scenes efforts.
