Thinking about headlamps for my rear-engine Crusader project.

The original design was never truly street legal.
Thinking of adding modern lights at the top of the fenders to get them high and wide enough.
Want them as small as possible.

That is going to vary state-to-state. Do you have the regulations for Nevada? (I assume you're talking about Nevada.

From memory, Kentucky didn't spec a size. Only a height and throw angles. (Not that they measured the throw angles during the inspection.)

Nevada tends to mirror the Fed. standards for most vehicle specifications.
Although they did once tell me that I could not register a motorcycle powered car here.
I think I know a couple of ways to get around that particular stupidity.

Fed's have a spec range for height and width, I'm sure the lamps have to be DOT approved as well.
I've never heard anything saying MC lamps cannot be used on a car.

So where would I source these lamps?

Just a comment. DOT "approved" lighting is a misnomer. DOT sets the standards. They do not approve anything. If you are a sucker for punishment, you cam read the requirements here: https://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/CFR-2008-title49-vol6/pdf/CFR-2008-title49-vol6-sec571-108.pdf There are >999 places where the word "headlamp" is used. Have fun.

And if you happen to find a particular light that claims it is DOT approved, or has the word DOT on it somewhere, T Be aware that here are technically different photometric requirements for motorcycles. Conceivably, marked DOT headlights may be for Motorcycles and not be suitable for Passenger Vehicles.

All that technical BS being said, what you will be inspected to will likely vary from what you are required to meet , based on the particular state and individual inspector you get

BTW some of us use the electrical box intended for motorcycles to cancel the turn signals. I just saw that these are not compliant with requirements for cars or trucks. I guess my 1956 MG wouldn't meet that requirement, as it had a funky pneumatic timer. Fortunately, DOT requirements are not retroactive. Most of us who use the SEMA sponsored "Custom Vehicle" route to register our cars get to declare what year goes on the title. So we only HAVE to meet safety (lighting) requirements in effect in that year, like 1960 in my case.

Yes many times motorcycle headlights will blind oncoming cars. Cars have a left and right light and they have different light patterns.

If you have Xenon headlights it's easy to see as the cut off point will be lower on the left beam than the right.

As low as these would be mounted blinding oncoming traffic should never be an issue so long as they are not aimed UP.
Went to the link, looks like I would need to make a housing for them as the pods are ugly.
Or at least make them quick-detach and remove them during the day.
