I recall seeing a post of two very small headlamps in what would be a four lamp system.
I believe they were actually mounted to the wing of a Seven type build.
Also recall them as being a twin unit on single mount.
Searched for hours but cannot relocate the pic and web search is going nowhere. :BH:

I have a Bradley GT as one of my 'Not a build just a repair' projects.
The original Pop-Up headlamp system was not great and the DPO of this one cut up the mechanism mounts. :ack:
So I'm looking for something small enough to either go above the original opening without being too ugly, or just below the top edge under plexiglass.

If all else fails I will fit 5" lamps in the wings but that is a more complex project than I really want to tackle at this time.

IIRC the Ar-i-el At@m uses something similar to what you are looking for.

There are also variations of this:

“Legal” narrows it down quite a bit. The level of scrutiny varies greatly. Inspection to be titled versus already registered matters too.

Hella makes high quality, DOT auto-legal 50mm projectors for a four lamp system and 90mm projectors for a two lamp system. A servo controlled door provides the light cut off in low beam mode. You are looking at around $200+ for a complete system. These are designed for flush mounting. Flanges are extra $$.

Post mounts are usually not DOT legal because either the lamp is not DOT approved or is made/marked for motorcycle use only.

If you have popup head lights, it is a Bradley GT 2 with two round lamps. The GT has four fixed, round lamps with simple swinging doors on a bellcrank with a long rod connecting to a handle inside the car with a compression spring to preload/prevent rattles.

For cheap, small, DOT auto-legal lamps, You could fit a single 4x6 3-terminal (hi and lo) such as a 4652 or 4656 using common 80s car 4x6, 4 lamp buckets with an L-shaped, .050 or thicker sheet panel using a two bolt flange off the body at the front and rear. Generally, anything that covers the lights such as a clear, aero plexi cover is not legal.

Cheaper still but less compact is to use 5-3/4 5006 3-terminal lamps and universal flush buckets or with motorcycle buckets.

You can find smaller round DOT 3-terminal lamps but they are marked for motorcycles.

@RichardSIA

Google Image Caterham Levante V8. It had three on a post. Is that the kind of thing you're looking for?

Cheers,

Almost, the one I recall was two per side and shorter front to back with a black housing.

No it is a Bradley GT-1.
Prior owner ruined the "Pop-Up" headlamp system.
They were pretty ugly anyway.
The reason they used that system was to get the lights mounted high enough for DOT requirements.
I want to get away from the complexity and still keep the lights mounted as high as possible.
Smaller diameter lets me mount them higher but still behind the body line.

Saw a Pinterest post where the original opening was filled and lights moved to the fenders.
If I keep the car long enough that is my eventual plan too.
For now I'm looking for a fast solution.

Ok, so it is a GT but was converted to pop up; something like this that appears to use miata lights?
Included a few others.

I used to own a Bradley GT. I like the lights and simple door system better than any of these options except the kelmark nose.

I found a large selection of smaller than 7" headlights on a dune buggy site. Too many years ago to recall which one.

Top red one is well done but still not legal height.
Blue and white is close to what I am trying to do for now.
Green one is close to my eventual conversion but I will use the smaller 5-3/4" lamps.
Purple is what mine originally had.

Ah, now it makes sense to me. Didn’t realize the GT was made both ways.
Think of all the words that could have been saved with a single pic.

Temporary vw buggy post mount 7 inch 6014 sealed beams with the CL at the minimum plus one inch or better yet, fit the 4x6s into a bucket/pan, weld adjusters into the beam if it doesn’t have them and raise it up so it will meet the reg.
