I want my money back!!

Thanks rob, I thought I would fool it by changing the wheel offset but it seems to be tied in.

Don't stress Mate, want this proggy but don't want you to burn out so you give up on it, so take your time

Just another one unless it's me, when i bring the false horizon up to the little green roll center point I believe that's when the RC height should read zero but alas ...

Hey Cheapracer, the false horizon is really supposed to simulate a bump in the road rather than brake dive. Dive should probably be simulated using ride height (though it's not a draggable input). Curious if others have any ideas.

I just finished my day job stuff, so I'm back working on the 1mm issue. It's getting there: the graph and chart look fine so far. The inputs/outputs need some work now, but it shouldnt' be too bad. Thanks for your patience --

a new version of Vsusp is up:

- 1mm issue fixed: I tested and things look fine. Let me know if you notice anything unusual
- your v0.6 project links will be converted auto during load to v0.7 which show values in hundredths of a millimeter
- I disabled the input spinners, which turns off arrow-up/down in the input boxes. Numpad entry now works. I can see about putting arrow-up/down back in if anyone likes using it
- I increased precision on the input boxes, though reality checks are helpful
- removed RC y-position from chart y-axis defaults. Soon I'll add the chart preferences to the project link

That sounds like great progress. Like they say, I'm off to the races!

It'l take a few hours but I'll post up some stuff soon, thanks

Checking in: I'm still working on adding chart preferences and metric/customary to the project link. I hope to be able to work on Vsusp a little more this week.

Small progress recently :( but I've been gathering tools and whatnot for a locost build. :) Tubing should arrive on Tuesday

It's great your actually getting started on building one.

I haven't been able to spend as much time as I would like on this stuff the last week. I am getting odd results for the roll center in some situations. I'm thinking we have a small problem. It seems to be when you adjust the bump/droop to a height about where the roll center is. It becomes very sensitive and I've seen huge vertical plus and minus numbers, like thousands of inches of change when adjusting the height of the bump/droop by less then 1/10".

Along these lines I think that the roll center should be referenced to the new height of the ground when adjusting for bump and droop. It may be you don't want to do that, but certainly any force vectors and jacking effects etc. are referenced to the new height of the ground. Those forces come from the tire contact patch and that certainly is on the ground. I think you mentioned that you weren't considering the bump/droop settings to be for things like dive under braking, but it's basically the same thing.

Maybe we should do a couple of test comparisons with some other software?

Rob, the effort you are putting in is awesome, can't thank you enough, what a fantastic fast reference it is.

Being selfish, I would like more of course! I feel crappy even asking, feel like I'm complaining while you're doing all the hard work! FWIW I am willing to make a donation.

Love that I can now type in any dimension I want to but could you extend that also to the degrees of roll and left/right bump please? I find it difficult to consistently get the exact amount of degrees of roll just by the mouse.

When I enter dimensions I find I have to scroll up and down all the time, maybe the left/right bump and degrees of roll boxes could sit above the animation?

The false horizon works fine for dive testing btw.

Thanks again.

big vsusp update!

Most of the update is actually to the low level code, so sadly you won't see too too many changes to the GUI. I cleaned up or rewrote most of the tool's base code. I did this to fix some lingering low-level issues and also to speed up future fixes and additions.

Updates:
- added IC inclination angles: angle between horizon and instant center (thanks Horizenjob)
- cleaned up of much of vsusp's base code, including how float precision is saved in project links, how inputs are linked to the tool model, how units are handled, input-change bindings, tab switching (and active tab is now stored in project link)
- moved body roll and bump/dive/squat to project 'trim' object
- added various settings to project preferences: units, front/rear, show/hide, zoom
- most inputs, including chart settings, are now saved in project link
- added escaping to project link so it can be pasted into forum (shouldn't need link shortener anymore)
- changed scale control to "pixels per mm" - but is this reasonable?
- made input/output boxes look a little better (styling)
- tire size convention: inputs opacity changes based on setting (styling/useability)
- fixed bad wheel sizes coming from hash
- various minor styling improvements and cleanup

Known issues to be fixed soon:
- tool won't load in IE8 and IE9. I won't bother with IE7 support anymore, doubt anyone uses it anyway
- Safari: control arm highlighter/mouseovers not showing up
- some highlighter/mouseover units missing in all browsers: tire width units, wheel diameter units
- need to add Instant Center inclination angles to the chart y-field options
- will add type-in for roll angle and bump/droop controls (thanks Cheapracer)

Your existing project links should work fine. I did do some testing, but since this is a big update, it would be good if you guys save an old copy of your project link until everything seems ok. And if you see anything that needs immediate attention, I'll focus on that.

hope you guys had a great holiday
-Rob

This all sounds like good news Rob! I'll try to play with it tonight and will be using it the next week or two to get some initial settings for where to mount my suspension tabs.

My first frame is getting some basic welding in the hills west of you at Function First Motorsports.

wow nice! That's your Car9 frame getting done up? Can't wait to see the pictures. I'm still catching up on the forum, so I'll check your Car9 thread

Hi B85, I'll need to update the documentation at some point, but there's some info here: http://vsusp.com/?help=2d#using_vsusp which should give you a general idea how to use the tool. You can start from someone else's project link (just click and go) and then modify things and see what happens to the instant centers, roll center, etc. If you just go directly to http://www.vsusp.com, you'll get a project with default settings. So, you'll have to adjust almost all of the settings to get it to match your project. I hope this helps --

Just want to give a heads up on a couple problems (which will be fixed soon!):

Opening your project and then clicking another vsusp link (eg. to load in new wheel settings or whatever) currently does not import the data like it used to. Also, one cannot currently paste new data in the url box after the #.

[update: this is now fixed] Another bug that a forum member mentioned: the 'tire size convention' is currently reverting back to 'standard' even if 'explicit tire sizes' was specified in the project link. It's probably a bug with how this field was saved in the project link.

For now, anyone seeing this problem should be able to just adjust the 'tire size convention' value to what it should be and then just use that project link

I'll likely have a fix for these today or tomorrow. THanks all --
