Would Ef (or other e series eb, el, ea) Uprights and brakes be usable for a Locost Build?

I am planning my build and would like to use plentifully available parts.

E series falcons here in Australia a very common and easy and cheap to get parts for.

If they are not an option, would love some input on what would be a plentifully available option in Aus.

Im looking to build a track car for cheap and with a minimum of head scratching. Ideally I will grab very common parts of the wreckers (auto dismantlers) as needed this will save space, mess relationship. If I can use common and cheap enough parts the whole single donor and sell unused parts thing would be applicablte.

Thanks for your help.

Upon further research there is no way a falcon stub axle will work.

They have a big vertical arm, they are all wrong.

It require so much suspension engineering that it wouldn't be worth while.

For the extra work id be better off.

1. Sourcing some rare but not impossible to find cortina stub axles locally in Aus
2. Source some rare and a bit pricey stub axle from MX5/Miata
3. Source stub axle from UK and have shipped, they are not huge so shipping is certainly possible and not too expensive,
cortina stub axles shipped from UK will prob be landed cheaper in Aus than MX5/Miata uprights sourced locally
4. Buy re manufactured cortina units rally designs et al . This could get expensive as may require use of wilwood brakes etc. not sure though

Thanks for letting me think out aloud

You should be able to find an early Hilux or a Hiace/Liteace downunder. Either one of those would should have useable uprights. Dave W

Thanks Dave,

Yep plenty of Hilux's about down under, any rough year models you recommend?

Do you know if the Hilux, lit ace Diffs would be any good?

I'm using a 87 Hi-ace upright on my build, because the wheel pattern is the same as the AE86 diff wheel pattern. I did switch to the smaller brake caliper 2" Vs 2 1/4" bore, but that's a personal preference. When I was in Jamaica last year I saw a lot of liteaces that would be the prefect donor for a locost drive train/build. But I have no idea how much it would cost in Oz for a totaled out van. Send me a PM if you interesred in using the upright, I already have a couple write on it's use. Dave W
