I came across these on VXB's web site. They're "L-Ball" rod ends; basically, ball joints with a straight shank instead of a taper.

What makes them different from the usual stud type ball end? One thing I see with this brand is the lack of any method to hold the stud while tightening/loosening the nut. Some stud ball ends have a hex on the shaft near the ball, other have 2 flats. I don't see anything like that on these.

Just curious.

None of the stud type ball ends I've seen before had the rubber boot.

Though the picture is crummy, I thought I saw a small diameter hex on the shank. Might be worth contacting VXB to find out for sure.

Are you thinking for balljoint applications?

I was thinking about the front ends of the trailing arms.

Searching "sway bar spherical end links" this morning, I found a dozen hits for vendors selling end links that appear to use L-Balls on the ends. And a couple of off-road places that seem to be using them for tierod ends. Or at least they *look* like L-Balls, right down to the odd galvanized-looking finish the ones on VXB's web site have.

Are those steel or mystery metal?

Don't think I would use those in a structural position.

They do apear to be "mystery metal, at least from their static load rating. They are maybe 2-5% the load rating of a 2 part steel rod end depending on size and ~1/2 to 1/3 the rating of the nice Rod End Supply LX series that Jack sells. Their $$ is ~ 3x the cost of LX series parts from Jack too.

I think I'd steer clear for structural applications unless they ar way oversized. Even then?

I wouldn't use them for anything safety critical. They're mechanical linkages and not really designed for suspension duty.
