Hey guys,

I'm surprised at how hard it is to find out what ratio handbrakes are. I'm planning to use an electric linear actuator rather than run cables through my tunnel (did it once; it sucks.). So I need to know how strong of one I need. I'm using calipers from a 2015 Miata. Has anyone done the math or be able to measure a Miata handbrake for me?

Cheers.

Looking back at my old CAD model I measure a 5:1 advantage. This is from a 1990 Miata and taking the lever point from the approximate center of the hand grip.

Excellent. Thanks! Now to try and figure out what strength linear actuator I need.

You can always use a lever with the actuator if you need more oomph. (at the cost of added throw) Be sure that the actuator does not relax when power is removed. a worm gear drive might work if the ratio is high.
