Start your build page listing what your goals are, what parts you have and what they came from, and show pictures of the current front suspension from different angles. Post your questions in your build topic so we can look at the overall picture to give you a better answer. You will also have the responses to your questions in one place to go back to later on. There are many things to consider that can trip you up so full disclosure is in your best interest with no downside.

Swapping the pinion and/or rack won't reverse the rotation, only flipping the whole rack upside down so the pinion is on the opposite side of the rack will do that.

The rack should be part of the system design rather than after or before the ifs. If you already have suspension, that narrows what rack is best (cost, modification, tierod/lca clearance, engine/rack clearance, steering intermediate shaft/pinion/column joint angles, etc). It could be that the PO has a very good design that you should continue with.

Is it possible to change from rear steer to front steer by changing it the pinion or gears inside the rack?

Sure can be. Simply turn it upside down and change from Left Hand Drive to Right Hand Drive. In other words, put the driver where the passenger usually sits.

Simply put, for a typical US build, if the pinion gear is below the rack, it is meant for front steer knuckles. If the pinion is above the rack, it is for rear steer.

MV8 is right. You should design the suspension/steering as a system. There are lots of ways to skin a cat. But first you need the whole cat.

I'll make a build thread soon with pictures and where the build is starting from. I just need to finish up selling another car to make room first

Start with a cat shaped cloud, then trim off everything you don't absolutely need! 8)
