Dumb question for you guys related to Little British car - Triumph / MG / others

Does anyone know if modern brake and clutch cylinder rebuild kits work with modern fluids?
I recall the old days of buyins a rebuild kit and it specifically saying use only with Lucas / Girling DOT3 fluids.

I'm wondering if rubber aftermarket parts are now made with nitrile, EPDM, or Vamac to handle the DOT 4 or 5 fluids.

I know that lots of the stuff that I get for my Europa is NOS, so buyer beware. I think unless it specifically says OK to use with the newer fluids, I break out the Girling stuff.

From what I read, any rebuild kits will have seals that are good for DOT 3, DOT 4 or DOT 5.1 as they are all glycol based. A lot of guys claim they are running DOT 5 (silicone) successfully. Even so, some brake part suppliers say do not use with DOT 5 brake fluids. So pay your money and take your chances if you want to use DOT 5.

Over the years, I have never personally used DOT 5 in any of my Brit cars (MG, TR, A-H) or any other car for that matter (Ford, GM, Dodge, Mazda, Hyundai, VW or Cushman  ). IMO, the primary reason to even consider DOT 5 is if the system leaks, it won't eat a $10,000 paint job. There are some who claim there are other technical reasons. I've never felt I was in that arena and needed to switch.

I'm sure you will get both answers if you wait long enough.

I've ran DOT 4 in the Sprite and the Midget for several years and had no issues related to the fluid type. I'd stick to DOT 3 or 4 - don't think you'll have anything to worry about.

Thanks guys.
Not I can get on with ordering full rebuild kits for all of the hydraulics. No sense in mixing unknown rubber components with a kit is less than $20 per component
