Instead of bothering with doors or curtain windows How about windows that slide in the (tall) sills? They could be electric and operated with a keyfob remote control. To get in you press a button, they slide down and you step in. If a convertible top is also on, what can be done to get in if the battery fails or something as you can't roll down the windows? Maybe finding a way to unlatch the convertible top from outside the car? Assuming the top is manually operated. If windows are taller than the sills then you can either have two piece sliding windows or some of the glass will protude from the sill. Not a big deal IMO as long as you are careful when getting in. |

Depending on the height of your top cockpit rail, it might be practical to hinge side windows at the bottom, and then just fold them down for entry or exit. |

1st thought was, whatever you put there will take up room in a already tight space. It is tough enough fitting into one of these cars. Any window, guides, lifting mechanism would have to be in the same area as people. But if you , think you can fit it in, go for it! I don't think the dead battery is as much a problem as you may think. When that happens, open the bonnet and use jumper cables. Then you have power to open the windows, get in and turn the ignition on. The next thought I came across is "what tall sills?" yeah they are taller than a regular car, but.....even so, the raised window will not be tall enough to reach the top of the opening. I figure only a couple of inches higher than the scuttle assuming 13 inches for the frame and a generous 11 inch scuttle height. Not enough to use as a real window or for an egress opening. |

An acquaintance has a Cadillac XLR. It doesn't have door handles - he has to use the remote key fob, which sends a signal for the car to unlock the door and kick it open a bit. I think it also rolls down the window slightly to clear the seal on the top. |
