Turns out he was smoking crack when he thought about what the car was worth.
Talked to him for a while trying to find some common ground, couldn't make a deal.
My main rule is if you can't buy it right, there's no point to taking on a project.
I've been a sucker for Porsche 924s mainly because of the fun factor to price point. I bought one 6 years ago for $450. Sold it 4 months later for $750. missed the car, wanted another one. started looking. Came across one with a "for sale price" of $1 on the ad. It was rough, needed floors, a fuel pump and interior from a leaking sun roof. Upon asking the guy how much he wanted - he replied with $3200.... wat. he said, well.. yanno.. its a Porsche.. so..
I havent looked for one since.
When I asked what he wanted, he says "I gotta have at least 5 for it".
I poke around and start a running tally on replacement panels, wheels, tires, wiring, paint, interior...
Yeah, I can do $500
"Oh no, I gotta have 5000. Fixed up this car is worth 100 grand..."
