I have a 6x6 Stalwart thats swims, all the mechanicals are in the center section and the flanges for the halfshafts have a big lip seal running on them between the center section, it also runs bilge pumps Its a very neat way of divorcing the mechanicals from the drink. That has a five ton payload in the water so must be about 12 ton all up . Another gearbox engages the jet drives while the wheels still turn, I have the workshop manuals if you would like to see some of the details.

Stolly.

Might be a great idea, dunno if I could afford to copy it though. I'm trying to sell off old stuff I no longer need to get the 465's input bearing retainer turned down to fit through the bellhousing. I got a set of the correct bolts to attach the 465 to the bellhousing, now I need a tap and matching drill bit. I'm glad it's only aluminum.
Getting farmers to let go of PTOs is hard, they say they might someday need a spare. All 6 I've asked said that, in various words. 3 of them I used to work for. Going to a tractor salvage means having to invest real money. I'd rather trade sweat equity.

I grew up on a farm, and a lot of the junk we had laying around got canabalized and used to keep other junk running. Having that junk around can get a guy out of a bind a lot of times. So there's a reason farmers don't like giving up old junk spares.
