just find some interesting things, this joint with square carbon tube can hold very high load, maybe it is possible to make a chassis with it?
we can use skin to replace the outer side joint to make it more strength

Source, cost?
I expect that the plates are bonded with the rivets only used to hold them tightly in place.
Will be a nuisance to paint.
Unsure of service life.

u need to glue it up
I don't know how it is in US, but I can buy all of it and cnc the carbon plate on alibaba in china

Not a lot, but what do you want to know?

It was a prototype presented last year by the UK company Westfield - a collaborative project between them and AIE (who produce a lightweight Wankel engine) and Axon (who produce the carbon fibre tubes).

The photos and information sheet were from the launch presentation at last year's Niche Vehicle Networks symposium - a UK organisation formed to support and promote the UK's specialist car/vehicle industry, of which I am a member.

I suspect that it was more an exercise to extract the government funding that NVN offers for such projects, rather than a serious production prototype - I made inquiries about purchasing the AIE engine for one of my projects, and the price is ludicrous and completely uncommercial. It has gone very quiet since they presented it.

The chassis was designed with steel front and rear subframes on a carbon tube/sheet central tub, so that Westfield's various engine/suspension package options can be easily bolted on to a common centre section.

oh, can I find it on Westfield website? I tried but didn't see it
it is interested to see it didn't use carbon or aluminium plate & rivet to joint, but glue it up directly & covered by wet carbon

No they're keeping very quiet about it - other than the presentation at the NVN Seminar (which is a requirement of the funding agreement), I've not seen them promote it anywhere. Draw what conclusions you will from that.

I have to say that it didn't look very sexy - as you can see from the photos, the joints looked downright amateurish.

yup, it feels they just make it for the funding.

I'll use rivet joint if I really make this

still considering build carbon tube fame of core panel chassis

traditional steel tube will not consider since I can't weld

is it 1" x 2" tube?

That's a previous prototype they did for Caterham. Rumour has it that it never ran, was not developed, and was later stripped for parts.

This is a picture of the bare chassis for that car:

I'd suggest bond and rivet: rivets will fret and become loose very quickly if they're used as the primary connection in carbon fibre. Use a bonded primary joint, with rivets to prevent peel.

I don't know - there's not much information on the project in the public domain. In fact, I don't recollect Caterham themselves ever announcing it - I'm only aware of it myself from inside knowledge of the industry here in the UK, and snippets of information that have leaked out.

They had a lot going on at the time with the collaboration with Alpine (which ultimately collapsed of course), so it's possible they simply decided that they had too many balls in the air, but that's pure speculation on my part.
