So I'm midstream on building the Seven, and wanted to put something simpler together for some fun with the boy. Cheap, Simple, and Fun.

1 Bolt to mount the brand new $325 drive train
2 Rear scooter shocks at about $50 each
2 More for the front
3 13" scooter tires/wheels/brakes/calipers/etc for $500
a few hundred bucks for odds and ends, along with 2 months max of fab work

Super Light Exo Scooter Trike Fun

Ordering the steel tomorrow. 1 3/8 dom 1/16 wall.

oh c'mon dad... no r1?

In all honesty, that's about the coolest thing you could do, getting the kid in the garage. Too many kids waste their bodies and minds inside on cellphones, TV and video games. I remember when we played baseball "under the lights" in my old neighborhood... and I'm only 27...!

Im curious how it goes getting steel that size. Let us know. When I asked one place here, a tubing specialist, the guy didn't look real happy but said he could check to get some delivered. I haven't followed up yet. He was more used to tubing sized for NASCAR...

CodeStar - That is TOO AWESOME!!!

I'm big into scooters, and am ramping up to build something to really piss off and impress the scooter purists. I've never thought about a trike, but I like what you're doing. Not sure what I'll end up doing...maybe a vintage art scoot?

Your low height is a BIG safety issue. Consider using tall bike flags. You *WILL* get kilt in a ride that low on the streets. Also paint it neon yellow or something

Looking forward to sharing notes. Please keep sharing your ideas and pix. I'll be watching this thread closely! Call on me if you need any info.

Rock on,
-dave "scooter" hempy

Neat project. Given the bike wheels and tires, you could just stretch the wheelbase to build a recumbent. Thats a good choice on wall thickness with tubes in compression and tension and not bending. The exoskeleton replica completed by the kid a few months ago used exhaust tubing for those massive curved tubes IMHO, although he didn't own up to it. Nothing wrong with that given the size of the tube and additional structure.

NASCAR stuff is way over built.

Dave,
I had a scooter in college, and hadn't thought of them since. But I have to admit, now that I've been planning this project, I think I might get another one.

If you go on ebay, and search for GY6, you will find many many new engines out there. With winter here, it's a good time to buy, scooters not so popular in the snow :)
OR....maybe you should pick up an old Cushman and put a 18hp briggs v twin in it. I saw a scooter gang that had like 6 of those at a vintage race in the fall, have to admit, they were pretty sweet.

Interesting time seaching on ebay etc for GY6. I never knew such a thing existed.

Interesting to find that some of the engine/drives come with a reverse gear.

Horizenjob...
I got the tubing at onlinemetals.com. 7, 8 foot sticks of 1.375, .065 wall DOM tubing and 2ft of 1.25 for $186 delivered to my door.
I have dealt with them in the past for several orders on my seven, and they have always been awesome. Never a problem.

More pics after I get some steel.

You may want to keep an eye on your CG. It looks like all the weight will be in the back and with the front wheels pushed forward like that it may be easy to lift the inside wheel in a turn.

Why not bring the front wheels back about 16", just in front of your feet?

Or get real radical and bring them back around your knees, with your feet out front. Not the safest...

OK, FINALLY off my last work project, and back to welding instead of typing.
Since we last did anything, I picked up a JD2 Model 3 bender, the SWAG Air/Pneumatic Ram Mount, and a HF Ram Mount....mmmmm...power bender.

In any case, bending tubing isn't nearly as hard as I thought it would be. Need to add bracing, mount the engine, and build the front suspension, but it's taking shape finally. Hoping to have this wrapped and moving by the end of January.
