Never ever, ever, ever miss an opportunity to see a World of Outlaws sprint car race! They are fantastic!! And, if you have a choice, pick the shortest track and dirt. Here in Winnipeg we drive 135 miles south to Rivercity Speedway in Grand Forks ND when the Outlaws are there to run on the 1/4 mile dirt track. Wow! Nothing like 30,000 hp all unleashed at once in the feature. Dodging 5 pound lumps of mud in the stands. Eating a taco-in-a-bag. That's a GOOD time. Don't EVER miss the chance to watch the Outlaws run.

I myself raced sprint cars out of manitoba in the early 80s and I like to describe myself as being beaten by the best........frequently.

I know what you mean. After you've been passed by the #1 car 3 or 4 times, you start to wonder why the organizers let so many cars in with the same number, as well as the same paint job!

Just awesome when one gets your daughter in the eye and you spend the night at hospital ..... black eye for a week and no further damage thank goodness.

600 Racing's online dogalogue is good value too (Legends) ..

Also of interest are the super modifieds, especially the ones running at Oswego, New York.

Hey egoman. Late 70's real early 80's I crewed for Kenny Chapman so we must have spent some time in the same place in the past. In fact, I almost missed the second date with the girl that was to become my wife because the feature ran so long on Saturday and in the old Wpg Speedway days we were all in the center of the track and couldn't get out until the show was over. Those were fun days.

If you're talking about sprints, especially on dirt, then you have to talk about Steve Kinser. Of course, there have been a lot of great drivers who drove sprints, A.J. Foyt, Al and Bobby Unser, Gordon Johncock, Mario Andretti, not to mention later ones such as Tony Stewart and Jeff Gordon. One of my favorites was Rich Vogler. He died in a race at Salem,In., A strange occurance, because he actually won the race. He wrecked on the last lap while leading. The race was red flagged, so he was declared the winner. I think Jeff Gordon finished second.

I remember that race, back when I used to watch Saturday Night Thunder on ESPN from Ascot Park. Gordon was up and coming when Ascot closed and his family moved to Indy so he could race there (not the speedway, the short track). I can still remember seeing Vogler's helmet rolling down the track at the end of the wreck and thinking that's not ending well. Sad day.
