It's not just about fighting bikes at Deal's Gap. They usually move quicker than the 4 wheeled traffic anyway. http://www.tailofthedragon.com/calendar.html
Mini's on the Dragon was this past weekend, they had 772 cars registered to show up. I was going to go with them last year, but I thought about the parade run of over 500 Mini's there at once. That's a bit too crowded for my tic's. The Tail of the Dragon is only 11 miles long after all.
I just posted this last week in Media, Photography and Videos:viewtopic.php?f=30&t=13614
Killboy.com also has great pictures of people driving the Dragon. If you've never checked his page out, it's worth a look.
It was my Locost's first real outing, and I took it to the Dragon on a Friday. There wasn't a terrible amount of traffic, but with the cops out and a 30 MPH speed limit, it wasn't all it was cracked up to be. We had fun, but it would be a great road back at 55 MPH where it once was. I think we enjoyed climbing the mountain on 165 and 143 better. Sweepers, to hairpins, up the mountain, then back down. That was a good drive.
So I would say if you are planning a trip to the Gap check the calendar first. Also what crisd said, go on a weekday.
