I could probably find these if I could remember what they were called. It's a plastic ball with a hole through it; the ball is held by a clamp that looks like a stamped steel pillow block and it has a hole in the center that the steering shaft goes through. I need them in 1".

Dang, this getting old sucks ("Honey, did I take my short-term memory loss pills this morning?").

It is metric but it looks light.

Exactly right, and I believe I got my latest batch from McMaster-Carr, but I can't find them any more. Where on the page that link opens to are they?

The picture you've included is perfect, exactly what I'm looking for, but apparently I need to be led by the hand through this process. Sheesh, what a maroon, to quote M. West and B. Bunny.

Some lower-end rod-ends are actually cheaper than the above unit, are obviously adjustable, and don't require drilling.

I've bought them from Grainger also.

A pillow block with roller bearing and grease fitting would be better. Just secure the shaft with set screws, attach a steel strip to the base with bolts, then weld bits between the strip (supported by the shaft through the pillow block) and the chassis.

Jack, speaking of memory, I sent you am email last week through Kinetic about a deal on a v1505. Did you get that?

Thanks guys, that takes care of it for me. At least they're lighter than a 1" rod end, and I can adjust the height with shims. Surprisingly expensive, though--"Food Grade", eh? How about "Caviar Grade"?

Thanks for the Kubota tip, MiataV8--I got it but didn't follow up 'cause the NA engines are prohibitively expensive to turbocharge. There's not a huge difference in the engine price between turbo and non-turbo, but the parts for conversion are...gosh, maybe the conversion kit is Food Grade.

Jack-
True story: Several years ago, concerned with my failing memory, I bought some herbal medicine-type stuff. It was called Gingko Biloba. I took 'em for about two days, and then I couldn't find the bottle. I searched everywhere, but for the life of me, I could NOT REMEMBER where I'd put the damned bottle. I took it as a sign from the Almighty that I was just supposed to be an old fart, and quit worrying about it.

I used 2 Grainger Ind. Supply "flanged polymer bearing"s - one in the steering and the other for the shift linkage.
http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/wwg/catalogPDF.shtml Check pages 184 and 185 (rod ends)
Worked for me!
