John, what AFR's are you running with your Duratec? I find that I can run in the 16's, but am afraid to; heard too many stories of burned valves, (not in the Duratec). I cruise in the low 15's. Mileage (in the Alpine) is the low 30's, with the M5R1 and 3.80 rear. Definetly not a mileage combo.

Bill,

in answer to your question, i have no idea but i have 40 years of experience so i can say, it's fat all the way through the rev range, the exhaust is very hot which would also indicate that it was rich/late,

i put this down to the fact that i'm running the ranger pcm, as that is a heavier vehicle the fuel map. is probably rich with late timing

another indicator about the timing is the exhaust note is loud and deep at cruise.

i have 3.3 rear end ratio and it has a job pulling high gear over 80 mph, if i shift to 4th. it pulls like a train.

i should get a flasher but money's tight and it runs so i'm inclined to leave it alone for now.

I found this site today. The front sort of looks a three wheel Locost.

^^ Yes, I understand that the company proposes to occupy an old GM factory near Shreveport, LA.

I am kinda disappointed that at first look, the machine they offer has nothing special about it. Maybe that is why I'm not a car manufacturer.

Nothing special! 84 mpg, 3 passengers, 100 mph top speed, reasonably equiped for under ten big ones? What would you like it to be?

More attractive than genital warts. :ack:

That's part of what I like so much about Max. While the design is still being refined as the various parts move from Max prototype into Lalo production form, Max does not have to make any excuses or apologies for how it looks.

I am getting the bugs out of my Kubota 3 cylinder turbocharged diesel engine.
My biggest problem was above 2000 r_p_m I had a bad vibration.
The headlights in the rearview mirror would be quarter inch size donuts.
Luckily I was able to borrow the propeller balancer from work.
I had a 1.6 inch per second vibration in the front of the engine and a 1.4 inch per second vibration in the rear of the engine at 2500 rpm.
My engine started out life as a golf course Toro lawnmower. I tried to take off the cast iron pulley on the front of the engine with an impact wrench but that did not work so I just drilled holes in it for the balancing.
I slid the transmission backwards and drilled holes in the flywheel to balance the back half of the engine.
final balance numbers were less than.2 inches per second front and back. About a 10 times reduction in vibration. The car feels very smooth now. My 14 inch shift handle extension doesn't vibrate nearly as much now.

Glad to hear you found--and even better, that you solved--the vibration problem.

Uh, could you explain that in layman's terms? Meanwhile, I'll lay here and listen.

One measurement of vibration is inches per second or IPS.
if the parts shook 1 inch 10 times a second it would be 10 IPS .
Add all the vibration end to end at that frequency.
We balance our airplane propellers to less than .2 IPS at cruse rpm and power setting.

Got it. So 1.6 IPS at 2500 RPM is about 0.040" motion every time the engine goes around. I'm not surprised that headlights drew donuts on your rear view mirrors. 0.2 IPS sounds like a great improvement.

My understanding is that while the average velocity intuitively makes sense, as it provides and actual average amplitude when compared against frequency, referencing vibration in IPS is actually a measure of the peak velocity.

thread needs bump and I'd feel strange getting on the MAX thread going "Hey,look at these cool cars".
Anyway here's Honda CRX getting 118mpg
http://www.treehugger.com/cars/modified ... 8-mpg.html
(and 92 Civic CX getting 95mpg @ 65mph)
http://www.treehugger.com/slideshows/ca ... aerocivic/

Makes me want to go out and see what couple sheets of plex can do for my daily driver pu.

PS: These make me wonder what mileage would be possible with Jack's mechanical combination covered with a more aerodynamic body. AND yes, I realize he isn't done yet, but how much is that classic sports racer rear body/ open cockpit costing in terms of drag. Suppose if u had deadon front view of both and resized for same scale it would be a start comparing frontal area wise.

Instead of drilling the pressure plate holes larger to make up for the slight misalignment in diameter between the kubota flywheel and the geo pressure plate ]
Attachment:

I tapped new holes that line up with the geo pressure plate.
First l put 1/4" drill bits in the kubota flywheel.
Next l pressed the pressure plate alignment holes on the 1/4" drill bits centering the plate.
I used transfer punch to center my new holes then l drilled & tapped 8M 1.25
